A retired temple caretaker, Pairoj, 70, allegedly shot his wife, Jamnian, 66, before committing suicide in their Ayutthaya home on October 26. Police discovered their bodies in the Phachi district after being alerted by a neighbor around 7pm. The scene showed no signs of struggle, with a shotgun found near Pairoj and two spent shells.

The couple lived alone, and their daughter, Thidarat, 43, mentioned they had no health issues or known conflicts. Pairoj was recognized for his community involvement, contributing to temple ceremonies and assisting monks. Jamnian was a homemaker, and locals described them as kind and active in the neighborhood.

Upon discovery, neighbor Buppha, 47, noticed unusual quietness and darkness in the house. She turned on the lights, found the bodies, and reported to authorities. Investigators collected gunshot residue and found evidence suggesting the caretaker shot his wife before himself, estimating their deaths occurred three to five hours prior.

The bodies are now with the Institute of Forensic Science in Pathum Thani for autopsy. Authorities continue to probe potential motives, interviewing family and neighbors, as the initial findings indicate a murder-suicide scenario.

Key Takeaways

  • Both victims were well-regarded in their community.
  • Initial evidence points to a murder-suicide, with no struggle.
  • Investigation continues to determine underlying motives.
