I actually agree with you -- a great many people with no personal connection whatsoever to either Israel or Palestine are hypercritical of the Israeli state while paying no attention to equally brutal conflicts elsewhere in the world, in a manner that smacks of antisemitism.

It is clearly antisemitism.

However, you’re wrong in saying that this is a “left-wing thing”; plenty of people on the left are antisemitic, but plenty of people on the right are, too. And don’t forget that antisemitism has been a stain on humanity for two millennia, well before the concepts of “liberal” and “conservative” developed in the contexts we’re familiar with today.

I am talking about 2025. Yes we had the national socialists in the 30's and 40's but in the modern day it is very much the left that perpetuate Jew hatred under the guise of being "anti Zionist" or "anti Israel".

And more, with respect to Darfur, I would suggest that you yourself are simply using that catastrophe as a backdrop to forward your own agenda -- namely, liberal-bashing. What do you think about Trump’s complete dismantling of USAID, which has directly led to more death and suffering in Darfur and elsewhere in Sudan? If you’re on board with that, then you are as dismissive of the plight of these brown people on the ground in Sudan as are the people you are rightly criticizing.

That's an interesting point. Wrong, but interesting nonetheless and since it's of a much higher standard to the usual drivel on here (apart from your totally unnecessary use of the word brown) I will address it.

I am of the opinion that nation states should look after themselves and I see foreign aid as poor people in rich countries giving money to rich people in poor countries. I am generally against it especially when you have people dying in the UK of the cold, homelessness or waiting for an operation while we give money to India (or more accurately their corrupt politicians) who have their own space program. My partner worked for an NGO in Bangkok for 2 years so I saw all the chauffeur driven execs, their kids in international schools, the wives spending time shopping and attending hiso functions, much of it funded by foreign aid from our governments.

Hence I believe in minimum interference in foreign issues and in minimal foreign aid, be that the middle east, Asia or Africa. I was against Blair's war (crimes) in Iraq and I am against Starmer interfering in Ukraine or Palestine while the UK can't control it's own borders or look after it's own needy and slips towards third world status.

So you can disagree with my stance, you might see it as somewhat cold hearted to put my own country first and everyone else an equally distant second but you must concede that I am consistent in my stance. I am not marching for Sudan, OR Palestine, OR Ukraine. I support the cuts to USAID equally. What I despise is the hypocrisy of the left claiming they care so much about the Palestinian people with barely a peep about the other conflicts in the world. I firmly believe the reason they care so much about this particular conflict is because the other side of the conflict are Jews. The evidence supports that.

No. The reality in the Darfur is that it is a case of flagrant prejudice. The people being killed are primarily black africans, most of whom are Christian or animists. The militias are Islamic centered. The victims are  raped, tortured, sexually abused and sold into slavery. people like you do not attend rallies or speak out on their behalf.

it is about the hypocrisy of the  protestors. When is the last time, the Bengali, Pakistani and radical union and student groups marched in London on the issue of darfur? need a hint? There haven't been any rallies of  significance in the UK or the USA or Australia or any major EU city.  South Africa has said and done nothing. Where are the UK Labour MPs? The EU MPs? The US progressive democrat congressional members? Nothing. Nada. Not one word from the Arab community worldwide.

During the Syrian civil war, western churches and synagogues were organizing to sponsor Syrian refugees. The muslim world wasn't. And the muslim world isn't helping the Darfur African refugees today.

Your points are well made; we just disagree. I’m a globalist and feel that we are all responsible for each other. Sure, that’s pretty idealistic and maybe even naïve, and your characterization of aid money flowing to poor countries is probably accurate in many cases (I just spent a month in Nepal, one of the most corrupt countries on the planet), but I don’t think that means we should stop trying. Much of the USAID money sent to Sudan reached its target and made a difference.

(I worked for USAID’s Regional Inspector General office in Singapore in 1989-1992 -- responsible for auditing USAID disbursements in the Asia region -- and they were pretty serious about accounting for the money and ensuring the effectiveness of their programs.)

As for antisemitism, it may be that, with respect to the Israeli state, this is more of a left-wing phenomenon, but right-wing antisemitism seems based in all the same tropes and conspiracy theories that have been around for centuries (e.g., “Jews will not replace us” from that Charlottesville rally). I’m linking to an academic article on the topic that might be of interest.

So it all comes down to hatred toward the United States, then? That’s exactly my point. Fanatical Muslims — the so-called “people with integrity” — view not only Israel but the entire Western world as their enemy, with the U.S. as its foremost symbol. Any Westerner who sides with such extremists is either fool or a traitor. Remember 9/11 !

Darfur is obviously far from average people's concerns, compared to the Israel/Palestine issues which have been echoed internationally since the beginning.

However, it's inaccurate to claim that other countries, and international institutions such as the UN or the EU, have been mute about it, even if they have been unable to stop this genocide.

Here's a good summary of the conflict and genocide history, as well as international reactions.

It should be reminded than Sudan is the third African gold producer, which may explain the alleged support to RSF by the UAE.

"To solve the war in Sudan, we have to follow the gold, and we arrive at the UAE," said Marc Ummel, a researcher with development organisation Swissaid who tracks African gold smuggling to the Gulf country.

How U.A.E. Arms Bolstered a Sudanese Militia Accused of Genocide

Gulf Arab state has funneled weapons, including Chinese-made drones, to rebel forces

U.S. intelligence agencies say the United Arab Emirates sent increasing supplies of weapons including sophisticated Chinese drones to a major Sudanese militia this year, bolstering a group that has been accused of genocide and pouring fuel on a conflict that has created one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises.
Separate reports, including from the Defense Intelligence Agency and the State Department’s intelligence bureau, show an increase in the flow of materiel from the U.A.E. to the rebel Rapid Support Forces since the spring, according to U.S. officials familiar with the intelligence. The materiel includes the advanced Chinese-made drones along with small arms, heavy machine guns, vehicles, artillery, mortars and ammunition, the officials said.

This Gulf Nation Is Powering Trump’s Moneymaking Machine

Eight years later, the United Arab Emirates, home to the metropolises of Dubai and Abu Dhabi, has become a hub for the Trump Organization’s international expansion. With first sons Don Jr. and Eric serving as emissaries, the president and his family have entered into at least nine agreements with ties to the gulf nation—some involving government entities in the country, many stemming from business relationships developed there. Together, the ventures, which include five licensing agreements and three cryptocurrency deals, will provide an estimated $500 million in 2025—and about $50 million annually for years into the future.

Not millions, but I expect the UK to take its fair share.

Well, on these sort of situations the left conveniently does the old "Nothing to see here, move along" MO pretending it isn't happening because it doesn't fit their narrative that demonizes either whites or Israel.

Always a defending silence and refusal to help coming from the Arab world too and it seems perfectly okay to kill "Non-Arabs". Looks like everyone's indifference to such situations just facilitates it, so that they have-it-out until the last man standing wins.

No no! We've been told many times in this thread that it's lefties who have been silent about the Darfur genocide, not Trump! 🤣🤣🤣

Here's an example of lefties having been silent about it!

"On January 7, 2025, Secretary of State Blinken determined that the RSF and their allied militias had committed genocide in Sudan. Since the start of the conflict, these groups have systematically committed murder and sexual violence. They have targeted civilians in Darfur based on ethnicity. They have also restricted aid access on the basis of ethnicity.

Secretary of State Blinken also announced that the United States would sanction the RSF leader Mohammad Hamdan Daglo Mousa (known as Hemedti) and seven RSF companies based in the United Arab Emirates. Shortly after, the United States said it would also sanction Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan (Burhan). As leader of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), Burhan played a large role in destabilizing Sudan. He was also responsible for war crimes committed by the SAF, including the obstruction of humanitarian aid."
