Bangkok police return 1.3 million baht to elderly scam victim after call-centre fraud

Police in Bangkok have recovered and returned assets worth 1.3 million baht to an elderly Thai woman who fell victim to a call-centre scam run by Hong Kong nationals. One of the suspects, arrested on 18 October, had directed the victim to conceal valuables inside a milk-powder tin and deliver them at a hospital as part of the scam. Further investigation found the gang also deceived another victim into handing over cash and gold amounting to over 3 million baht. Law‐enforcement also confronted the second victim in her home as she was still talking to the scammers on the phone and refusing help. The case highlights the growing threat of call-centre fraud targeting older people and the importance of rapid police response to recover stolen assets.
