A family shooting occurred in Surat Thani province when a 67-year-old father allegedly shot and killed his 43-year-old son after the two had been drinking together. The incident took place late on October 28 at a house along the Southern Seaboard Road in Moo 2, Chang Khwa Subdistrict, Kanchanadit District. The victim, identified as Mr. Kanisorn, sustained three gunshot wounds, two to the back of the head and one to the back and later died from his injuries.

Police and rescue teams, including officers from Kanchanadit Police Station and the Forensic Science Division 8, arrived to find blood on the floor, several scattered bottles of liquor and soda, and three 9mm bullet casings. Rescue workers performed CPR before rushing the victim to hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.

Investigators soon identified the shooter as Mr. Chayaphon, the victim’s father, who later surrendered to police at Kanchanadit Police Station. He handed over the firearm used and confessed to shooting his son but requested to provide a full statement only in court. The police took him into custody pending further legal proceedings.

Mr. Nok, the suspect’s younger brother and the victim’s uncle, told investigators that he and the deceased had been drinking under the house earlier in the evening while the father remained upstairs. He said the atmosphere had been normal until he went to shower for about 10 minutes and then heard several gunshots. The victim’s wife reportedly ran to alert him, saying her husband had been shot. When he returned, he found his nephew motionless on the floor and immediately called for help.

According to Mr. Nok, the father and son had not appeared to argue recently, though several years earlier they had clashed frequently when the younger man was struggling with drug addiction. He added that relations had since improved and the two had been living peacefully together until the fatal night.

Police have charged Mr. Chayaphon and are continuing their investigation to determine the precise motive behind the shooting. Authorities said the suspect would face prosecution according to the law.

Pretty strange how you and your son are roughly the same age. Besides that, that comment makes all of us think you wouldn't be the kind of person to be around. Most everyone has children that have done some stupid things, beyond what our teaching them has done, as they have peers that sometimes lead them astray, at least for awhile. But they're still our children, and hopefully they learn to grow past their ignorant actions. Anyone who would kill their own children, family members, or friends, or any other innocent people for that matter, is a very disturbed, dangerous person that needs severe immediate mediation and hospitalization. This is one reason many should consider not going to that Christmas party with how a few here think.

We're roughly the same ages as in this article (and I corrected my original post, thanks for pointing that out).
