@Rob Browder & @Yagoda thanks for your info, very interesting reads.  Many of the downsides of Thailand mentioned in this thread have been grating on me in recent months, it's likely off of my retirement list now.

 

I've only been to Cambodia once, went to Phnom Penh & Siem Reap.  The only worthwhile negative to mention was that I ripped off by Cambodian Immigration.  But only a few USD; the guy wanted me to pay for a business visa when I was there on holiday.  To save the hassle I paid the extra, and got a tourist visa stamp in my passport 🤣.  But this didn't detract from an otherwise excellent trip.  I'll go back to SR to see how it's changed as soon as I can, and take a harder look at it from a retirement point of view.

I dont Thai food @ any price point.... am guilty of the cleaner and gardener though, they each get 1000B a visit (cleaner weekly @ 3hrs, Gardener monthly @ 4hrs).

No, I have to agree. Been there a lot, and people actually seem more friendly and genuine that in Thailand nowadays. However, Thailand has many other benefits, and it´s not as bad as they try to make it.

If you are looking at pure retirement and have decent health, its definitely a consideration...if the border is open.
