Chinese EVs

Featured Replies

Interesting U tube video. I can see this possibly happening in Thailand, considering the Chinese EVs now pouring into Thailand.

You never miss an opportunity to bash Chinese EV’s.

You need to jump out of this hole of ignorance you’ve fallen into.

The entire video is nonsense and diametrically opposite of what Thailand buyers have experienced. I wonder why the video showcases Mercedes S class ICE vehicles too? they are not Chinese EV’s.

sisters cousin has one and it does great, no problems at all, has done several very long trips in it, very cheap to run and very comfortable

Yes all good now, time will tell when battery warranty runs out or car brand goes belly up.  My long term concern is will you be able to sell when battery warranty has finished, looking at other countries around the world resale value almost no value.

We have a Japanese pure ICE car, I bought a Mercedes PHEV 2 weeks ago, a BYD Seal I'm selling and an MG4

The quality of the Chinese EV's is right up there with the Mercedes.  If the Mercedes was available as pure EV I would DEFINITELY have preferred that.  I'm a fan of EV's, I have experience, you don't, you only have prejudices.

Correct, Mr three prong driver, time will tell how good your ev will be after battery warranty expires, not to mention resale value.

He may not keep his cars past 3 years, which is good practice if you have a few quid.....😉

It's those who buy second hand that will bear the brunt..........😧

At least they can pick them up for the price of a decent pair of shoes.

But, may need boots, to push it around as the price of a battery will probably be out of the question...........😧

Not a problem for me as I'm 70 and my EV is 2 ..... guessing I'll be dead before the car fails.

Not that it has any warranty as the company went bust, but I only paid 219kbht for it.

🔋 Typical Lifespan

  • 15–20 years is the general expectation for modern EV batteries under normal usage.

  • 8–15 years is the range covered by most manufacturer warranties, often guaranteeing 70–80% capacity retention.

  • Many EVs on the road today show less than 2% annual degradation, meaning they retain over 80% of their original capacity after 10 years.

If our BEV died in year 9 of owning, then we got our money's worth out of it, with potential savings from not buying petrol of 300k THB, instead of spending 300+k baht for petrol, along with other maintenance or parts replacements, and it would be worth about the same, at the 8 yr warranty mark as any ICEV, not really worth selling and just pass on to a family member.

As far as I am aware 15 years is reserved for Heavy-Duty Commercial Vehicles

The CATL Tectrans long life version offers an exceptionally long lifespan of 15 years or three million kilometers, overcoming the typical battery life constraints of heavy-duty trucks

https://www.catl.com/en/news/6326.html

Catl has launch a Shenxing Pro battery designed for European leasing market

Shenxing Pro Super Long Life & Long Range Battery: The world's first LFP battery to deliver a 758 km WLTP range and a record-breaking 12-year / 1,000,000 km lifespan, driving breakthroughs in battery lifespan and range performance. With 9% degradation after the first 200,000 km, it is perfectly tailored to support Europe's leasing markets.

Not aware of any brands or models using the new Shenxing Pro battery

Buy a BEV now, new, MG S5 for instance for 699k THB, compared to any other JP badged, entry level, underperforming POS for same price, and tell me what the resale value of both will be in 10 yrs.

Cost to operate the petrol version, if driving 20k local kms a year ...

... about 50k THB

... S5 save 50k THB if having solar

... S5 same 40k THB if using MEA/PEA

Times 10 yrs ... hmm ... which on is the better value.   Oh year, the S5 comes with a lifetime warranty on battery, motor & drivetrain electronics, to any owner, 1st buyer & beyond.

Who in their right mind would ever buy a BEV ... pure stupidity :cheesy:

Hi everybody saying how wonderfull the car is , but nobody seems to talk about RANGE. My biggest problem is if your like to travel you must find a charger at your overnight stop, what I have seen is there are  very few or next to none hotels that provide charging points, you must charge your EV at charging station somewhere in a city at a charge point, then theres the problem of waiting for a vacant charger or worse finding some of the chargers dont work. When the infrastructure is at 100% reliable and charge stations at accommodation are the normI would consider buying one.

Your opinion doesn't align with our real life experience of owning a BEV, and we have no problem charging, and never an inconvenience, as the car is charging while we are doing something else.

We're a fan of the Ibis hotel chain, having comfy beds & pet friendly.  Many do have chargers available, and we've yet to use one, so that's how unnecessary they are to us, when O&A.

Just more opinionated excuses not to own, from the ignorant non owners, and certainly not a reason not to own.   I don't even think not being able to charge at home is much of a reason not to own, for most  people now.

Daughter's condo complex doesn't offer, and she has no problem charging while at work, and when doing her weekly shopping.

Keep spinning, some idiot out there might believe you :coffee1:

You are badly mistaken, there are an abundance of chargers in Thailand, and many hotels have them.

You have no experience of EV’s your ignorance shines through in your post.

There may well be many CS in Thailand, IF you live in a city or along a main highway. However if you live in rural Thailand, good luck in finding one. The nearest one to me is 60 km away in Kamphaeng Phet.

Even the local MG dealer, in Kamphaeng Phet naturally, has closed down, and of course the CS closed with it.

Yet in the "big" village 6km away, there are at least 5 gas stations, and at least 30 more between there and KPP, yet curiously none offer even a single CS.

What is the name of the big village 6 km away from you?

I assume you know you don’t need a charging station with 200km of your home.

I live 6 km from Klong Lan Pattana

The problem, is that if I had an EV and charged it in KPP, then 60 km of the battery charge would be wasted simply by driving home, If the following day we had to go to KPP and pass the same point, we would have use 120 km of charge to get nowhere.

That of course assumes the there is no power outage from the PEA which happens once ir twice a week, from 2 minutes to a couple of hours at a time.

In this case you would charge from home, either buy a home wall charger or simply plug it in to an outlet.

Many complainants about not having chargers nearby forget one of the main advantages of an EV is that you can charge at home while you sleep.

Of course if you live in a condo that is a different matter.

there’s a further benefit, buy an EV with V2L, fit an automatic transfer switch, and you can use your car to power your house during your many power cuts

OTH the advantages of an ICE in Thailand are that fuel stations are everywhere so once the ICE is refuelled you can sleep soundly even in tour condo and there are far more people capable of repairing and maintaining an UCE on Thailand than are capable of repairing an EV.
