  • Wait, are you actually saying you believe the apology is sincere, and not the words of a grown-up who, for the good of his country, is trying to mollify a person who has the mental maturity of a 5 y/o

  • Only the person kissing the feet tries to pretend in his own mind he isn't kissing the feet. Winning again.

Carney stokes the man child’s fragile ego while not stating anything said by Regan in the offending fact based advert was wrong.   Job’s a good ‘un.

Right so Carneys toe curling grovelling came out of a position of strength? No point expecting logic and honesty from certain quarters, is there?

"Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on Saturday said he apologized to President Donald Trump over a controversial political advertisement that quoted former President Ronald Reagan’s 1987 radio address criticizing trade barriers.

The White House accused Canada of taking Reagan’s words out of context. In response, Trump nixed trade talks with Canada and increased tariffs on Canadian imports by 10%".

"Play stupid games, win stupid prizes" ,you mess with the best you lay with the rest .

ai overview:

The quote is "Play stupid games, win stupid prizes," which means that foolish or risky behavior will result in an unpleasant outcome.

As evidence that irony is dead, Trump suppliant makes call to honesty.

Carney didn’t apologize for Regan’s words being taken out of context.

They were not.

Carney:  "Gosh, Mister Trump, I'm deeply, deeply sorry you were so bigly butthurt by Ronald Reagan's words.  It's a terrible, terrible thing to have no comprehension of economics or history.  We never should have quoted such a magnificent president in context.  Really sorry, eh?

Trump:  "Winning!"

Carney has his eye on the long game. He knows what he is dealing with. Trump canceled the  trade negotiations because the Canadians would not roll over and give Trump what he demanded. Trump wants total control of the Canadian auto manufacturing sector and unlimited access to dump goods into the Canadian market. The Canadians said no, so Trump had to find a way to stall for time and put pressure on Canada. All that Carney has done has said, fine your feelings are hurt, Sowwy. Now it is up to Trump. The cost of the tariffs on Canadian imports is starting to be felt in the US market and the longer it goes on, the more expensive  new US homes will be.

Carney ran two of the the world's most respected sovereign banks. For 7 years, he was chair of the Financial Stability Board, which co-ordinated the work of regulatory authorities around the world, giving him a key role in the global response to the policies of the first Trump presidency. he knows who and what he is dealing with. Carney is a tough Irishman, who knows how to scrap. He is also Harvard and Oxford educated and run circles around Trump. Canada and South Korea signed a defense and trade agreement today. it is heavy duty. It means that the billions of $$ in  defense spending Canada announced will be less likely to be spent on US goods. South Korea will invest in the Canadian defense industry and supply items previously sourced from the USA. The longer Trump tries to bully Canada, the greater the economic cost will be to the USA.

Easy to  remedy. Return to your homeland. Renounce your refugee citizenship and you won't be embarrassed anymore.

The apology was private and the substance of it has not been released. Given that the ad was truthful, Reagan did oppose tariffs, except for a very few exceptions, it's clear that the reason for the apology has nothing to do with the facts it was based on.

Henry of Navarre, a Protestant who converted to Catholicism to become King of France, once quipped Paris is worth a mass. For Carney, the same kind of disavowal applies to Washington.

My use of the word "and", followed by a question mark as a reply indicates that the poster wrote something that was pointless, not that the words themselves were incomprehensible.

Hope this clear up your confusion.👍

PS. Sorry, I keep forgetting that there are lots of posters with a less than stellar mental acuity on here.
