Police in Trat province have arrested nine Chinese men hiding in a beachfront resort, seizing 48 mobile phones believed to be used in online scams. The group was found without passports or travel documents and authorities suspect they fled from KK Park in Myanmar, a known hub for scam operations, intending to cross into a neighbouring country.

The operation took place at around 08:00 on 2 November 2025, when investigators and patrol officers from Mai Rut Police Station, under the command of Pol Lt Col Phichit Phuensan, raided a resort in Ban Chuen Beach, Khlong Yai district. The men were staying in a two-bedroom villa when officers arrived. None could produce identification or travel papers, leading to their immediate detention.

During the search, police confiscated 48 mobile phones found in the rooms. Resort staff told officers that a Thai group had booked the accommodation on behalf of the Chinese nationals using a Toyota Fortuner and a Bangkok-registered van, but refused to provide ID cards at check-in.

Using a Chinese interpreter over the phone, officers questioned one detainee identified as Xiao Chen, aged 26, who said only that he was from Yunnan province and had been sent to Trat, where someone was supposed to collect him. Initial phone inspections revealed apps linked to illegal activities, including gambling, money laundering and recruitment platforms, some of which had been recently wiped to conceal evidence.

Further investigation by immigration officers, led by Pol Col Kittipornthorn Paopiempthap, confirmed that the suspects likely escaped from KK Park in Myanmar, a compound associated with large-scale scam operations targeting victims across Asia. They reportedly entered Thailand through an illegal route with Thai accomplices assisting their transport, intending to continue onward to Cambodia.

The arrest has drawn attention from multiple security agencies, including the Royal Thai Marine Corps in Trat, the Third Marine Ranger Control Unit, Special Branch Police and intelligence units. All nine detainees are now being held for questioning while authorities coordinate with immigration and cybercrime units to trace the group’s broader network and confirm whether they were involved in cross-border scam operations.
