Of The Impossibility Of Keeping A Car Proper In Thailand

Featured Replies

bought my second new car in thailand.

got nearly 10'000 kms now in 4 months and take care of the car like a precious baby. but then there is the outside world.

with all the major highway improvements going on in thailand and the gravel on the road - who can prevent the little damages of gravel knocking out bits and pieces?

i just gave up trying to keep a perfectly tidy car.

the inside yes, keep it nice and organised.

but the outside of a car in thailand is doomed to suffer whatever precautions you take.

after all, a car's a purpose, to serve the need to go from A to B in certain comfort.

what does the outside matter?

deep breath, have to relax, relax ...

A year ago, we bought a nine year old car that had just been repainted. No big problems, although we may not have gone 6K km so far. Except that I scraped a thorny bush backing out one day.

In the LOS, where all the Thai drivers are 'very good' (not!!), I think it advisable to buy a car that looks like utter crap but is mechanically sound. The logic is this....if your car looks like you don't give a toss about it, others may think that you also don't give a toss about their car & thus avoid getting too close to you.
