Why is it that a Thai lady refuses you to pay for the restaurant bill?  As an American, men in the past has usually paid for the bill. Have the younger Thai women now feel  one pays for their own meal?

 

It's been a while since I went to a restaurant with a young Thai woman, but in the past every Thai woman was more than happy for me to pay the whole bill, including for her cousin, her friend, and her friend's friend. 

All the young Thai ladies that I have met and dined with were happy to pay the bill....you met an odd one it seems.

A couple gals sprung for the bill here in TH, and yea, did, but didn't surprise me.

 

More than a few would spring for the bill or next round back in USA.  Not surprising at all.   Especially the friends w/bennies, if they initiated the meet up, or not 😎

 

Seems contrary to most folks' experiences, or so I read or hear about.  

Perhaps just setting you up for the big one later on. 

I always pay all the bills when the Thai ladies are much younger than me. . . 

Maybe it was the way to claim the Happy Meal toy

Did she casually mention anything about a buffalo during your meal?

She is probably just testing you to see your character. Real men pay the restaurant check and show their leadership qualities. As a man, you are to be the spiritual head of your household, and it's your duty to provide for your woman, protect her and lift her up daily as your blessed and divinely gifted helpmate. If you can't rise to that level of masculinity, then you'll have a real problem with women who understand both the man's and woman's role in a relationship. She may be young, but she may be wise beyond her years. Step up to the plate my friend, and don't be a tightwad!

You are way off the mark on this one. Since meeting the wife, she has paid for most everything when we’re out. One of the first things she said to me when we met “I’m not a beggar” she being the least bit naive about the appearance of the notorious ATM farang that she doesn’t want any association and appearance of, from her perspective it’s a matter of self respect dignity and how she’s perceived by others, especially folks she doesn’t know. There’s a lot of women here who have the same self respect, though for those hanging out with bar chicks and chicks off dating apps one would never know.

Keep in mind,  that the falang in the eyes of a majority of Thai ladies....the falang is only for the monnney. Nothing else. 

 

With that in mind, we may consider the well known adage..."a fool and his money are soon parted"...

They do that only for the image towards others in society. They want to show on paying the check,  that they are not being maintained or sponsored  by the falang who is paying everything else in reality. Because, sadly, in the eyes of society in Thailand, any foreigner who sees a foreign man with a thai lady, will usually think she is a pro hooker. It's not true of course, but unfortunately, most will think so in public.

When the lady pays for herself, she don't owe you anything in return for a meal...

In a way, be happy that she (so far) proves that she is not after your money...

They pay to avoid loss of face towards all the other clients in the restaurant who will usually look when the bill arrives as to who is paying. Especially if there is a falang man with the Thai lady. And strong chances is that the Thai lady is paying with money that the falang just took out before from the nearest ATM !!😂

Experience tells me that there is no 'free lunch'. Sooner, or later she will tell you that, despite having a well-paid office job, she has 'temporary money problems' asking to "borrow" money from you, and not just once... 😆

This is one of the things that is great about this country: we are spoiled for choice with women here (for non serious relationships anyway).

i always took a rough estimate of the total bill and when it came gave my girlfriend  the money. She would then study it to check if it was correct and sort out any discrepancies in Thai and the pay it. That way I don't get ripped off and she gets the satisfaction of paying her way.

Yes, my Thai girl always checks the bill when drinks are involved.

Not a tightwad, I gave her money for expenses in a debit card that we share. Although she always demands to pay for the  gasoline.

That maybe the reason we use a joint debit card and she pays out of it.  Thanks.

I just top up my wife’s bank account when it gets low and she pays for everything from her phone unless I can use my credit card.

 

ps … I’ve never had the pleasure of dating a young Thai woman …married her when she was 48 and she is now 70 ….
