An Israeli couple has been arrested on Koh Pha Ngan after a video showing them having sex at a popular waterfall went viral, prompting public outrage and swift police action. The incident occurred on November 4 at Wang Sai Waterfall, Surat Thani, where the pair were filmed engaging in sexual activity in daylight despite the presence of other tourists. The footage quickly spread across social media, drawing condemnation from locals and travellers.

 

Following the online backlash, Koh Pha Ngan District Chief Suriya Boonphan ordered an immediate investigation to identify the individuals involved. Officials traced the couple to accommodation in Village No. 7 of Koh Pha Ngan subdistrict. On November 5, district and immigration officers, including Police Lieutenant Colonel Thanapon Chaetang and Police Colonel Naruwat Phutthawiro, detained the pair at their lodging and took them to Koh Pha Ngan Immigration Office for questioning.

 

During interrogation, both admitted to being the people featured in the explicit clip circulating online. They confessed to having sex at the waterfall around noon on November 4. Police subsequently charged them with “jointly committing a shameful act in public by exposing their bodies or engaging in obscene behaviour.” The two were then transferred to Koh Pha Ngan Police Station, where legal proceedings have begun.

 

Authorities stressed that such actions not only breach Thai law but also show disrespect toward local customs and cultural norms. Koh Pha Ngan officials noted that incidents like this risk damaging the island’s reputation as a natural attraction and tourist destination. The case has reignited discussion among tourism officials about the need for visitors to act responsibly and observe Thailand’s social standards when visiting public or sacred sites.

 

The couple remains in police custody as investigations continue. Authorities are expected to process the charges through the local court, which could result in fines or deportation. Tourism and local officials reiterated that while Thailand continues to welcome international visitors, inappropriate public conduct will not be tolerated.

This is exactly what Koh Pha Ngan will get when tantric yoga is banned! 

Were they c,lothed or nude what is considered sexual activity.  Is kissing and making out sexual activity even if clothed.

 Breaching Thai law I get. But breaching Thai customs and norms? From what I observe Thai people treat sex the same as having a beer. To be enjoyed anytime any where.

To perform a public sex act without a working permit is a No No.

I know that but in this case, it is about free sex and not paid sex, which is the most common practice towards tourists.

That's a nice looking waterfall, 25 years ago you could probably easilier get away with such behaviour as tourist numbers were 25% of what they are now and everyone weren't using a camera phone.

You missed my point.  Thais get upset about any form of affection.  It gets frustrating and over blown.  Not sure if you remember the 2 thais that were fully clothed in a bar front and kissing making out. They said they were having sex I have no idea how you have sex fuly dressed.

 

To some Thais necking is having sex.  If she was wearing a fullone piece bathing suit and he was wearing one of those old full body swim suits and hey were necking people would be saying they were having sex.  

 

The puritan dicotamy here frustraes he hell  out of me.  We are against showing affection in public no kissing or cuddling that is too racy.  BUT it is OK t have bars and bar girls and promote the massage parlours soapy and bars for tourists

If you come to Thailand you must obey their rules, even if they seem unfair, or just stay home.
