Get AIS data package at BKK airport *fast + smooth*? (Have SIM.)

Featured Replies

Hello, question: I am in Europe now, going back to Thailand on Nov 19. From my last trip, I already have an active prepaid AIS SIM card with 400 THB credit on it, but no valid data package. (Last time in TH, I paid money to keep the SIM card active for 1 year.) How to get a new 3 months data package for my prepaid Thai SIM card at BKK airport smoothly? 10 Mbit speed are enough. I prefer to get 3 months validity immediately. Can you recommend a procedure and a package?

Last time I TH, before flying back to the west, I paid money to AIS to keep the SIM card active for 1 year. Also i have the AIS app on the phone. I did not register on the AIS website. On the SIM card there is still 400 THB credit for talk time, but there is no data package any more. I need a data package to use internet in the phone. On the phone, I have Google Pay, 2 western credit cards and PayPal.

If I buy a package now in Europe already, I guess it will be valid immediately, which would be useless. To buy a package *smooth + quickly* after arrival at Suvarnabhumi airport and after inserting the AIS SIM card, I see these options:

  1. Better? At BKK airport, use airport wifi, open my AIS app and search for a data package. I hope to pay with Google Pay, western credit card or PayPal – possible? My existing credit on the SIM card is 400 THB, which I need for talk time.
  2. At BKK airport, go to an AIS stall and buy a data package right at the airport. But I know my car will be waiting already to go on a long road trip. Also I have extra sports luggage (bulky/must be watched). Also sometimes there are queues at the phone shops at the airport. Also sometimes these airport stalls are not well informed.

And maybe I can get the data package while I am still in Europe? I do have the AIS app in my phone, but currently I use the phone with a European SIM card. But I guess it makes no sense to buy in Europe, as the validity begins immedeately after activation.

Sorry, I am inexperienced. To get a data package that costs more than my existing 400 THB credit, is it a 2-step-process like

1. top up credit

2. select data package?

Or do I buy the data package in one swoop, even if the existing credit of 400 THB is not enough?

I do NOT need superfast internet. 10 MBit would be enough. (Last time i had 6 Mbit, it was ok for me over 2 months, no problem. I am happy to save money.) Data volume should be unlimited, which is normally the case. Importantly, I'd prefer a data package valid for 3 months! If possible, I don't want to buy a new data package every month.

So how to get a 3 months data package smoothly for my prepaid Thai SIM card?

Thanks for your real-life-experiences!

The best deals are for new SIM. e.g Marathon package: Three months of 15 Mbps (50GB per month) for 590 baht. But that is not available to SIM older than 30 days.

For older SIM, three months of 10Mbps costs 1925 baht. Not quite so attractive. Three months of 1 Mbps is 800 baht.

If you want Internet as soon as you land, apply *777*9512# via the phone's keyboard and then hit the Call key. That will give you just 800 MB over 30 days for under 30 baht.

That at least will give you the ability to get things done before you get the chance to either top up or to get a new SIM and transfer the balance to it.

If you arrive in Thailand with the Thai Sim inserted you should normally receive a message from AIS with dial codes for short term internet packages. you can subscribe to one of those first to get data connection for 24 hours or 3 days. This will give you time to either explore long term options with the app or visit an AIS shop. Just a suggestion.

Sorry, do you know if western credit cards, Google Pay or PayPal in the phone can be used to pay AIS online to get new credit on the phone?

Can't speak for AIS but for True you can use a credit or debit card to top-up, I've done so with UK cards.  I can't imagine AIS would be different.

Can also do it on the website.....https://www.ais.th/consumers/package/prepaid/top-ups

Once you top up to 2000 baht(I advise topping up in 100 baht increments, as each top up usually adds just one month of validity), then apply *777*7399# using the phone's keyboard, then to hit the Call key, in order to apply the 90 day Unlimited 10 Mbps package 1925 baht. Don't bother to try to ask anyone in a shop, they'll either feign ignorance or they will actually be ignorant.

If for some reason, the USSD code above does not work(it likely will), you'll need to use an Internet connection to click through this way: https://m.ais.co.th/BestOfferWebMRTH

It will ask you to add your number. Then you just click through the Green links.

If you want to look through all of the 90 day offers(1/4/10Mbps) you can click through here: https://bit.ly/3R5zxiX

When, on landing, you prefer to have Unlimited data, you can apply a 24 hour 10 Mbps package for just less than 60 baht via *777*7386# or a 48 hour 4 Mbps package for the same price via *777*7384#

Something in the middle? 48 hours of Unlimited 6 Mbps for 80.25 baht *777*7385#

48 hours of Unlimited 10 Mbps is 102 baht *777*7385#

Don't neglect to hit the Call key to apply the USSD code.

If you, or anyone else, decide to go the new SIM route,

https://www.lazada.co.th/products/pdp-i1487422386-s3917664775.html

https://www.lazada.co.th/products/pdp-i1487274400-s3917374862.html

then promotional packages are available, as long as you apply them within seven days of activating the SIM(30 days for the Unlimited 10 Mbps package).

Their Unlimited 10 Mbps package at 481.50 per month includes Unlimited HotSpot usage and 3 months of EPL(English premier League) viewing. *777*450#

Alternatively:

The All Together 300 package includes:

20 GB of 5G internet at up to 1 Gbps, then 60 GB of 15 Mbps. If you exceed 60 GB per month of 15 Mbps, your internet usage will continue at 1 Mbps. -

Unlimited free calls to all networks, up to 15 minutes per call. Exceeding minutes are charged at 1.06 baht per minute (VAT included) or 0.99 baht per minute (VAT excluded). So hang up at 15 minutes and call again.

Unlimited AIS SUPER WiFi HotSpot usage.

AIS Play Family

*777*9272#

300 baht deducted every 30 days for up to 6 months.

By spending 300 baht, you also get another free 20GB of data allowance per month. So 100 GB in total, which then is throttled to 1 Mbps.

Apply *777*7693# for the first month of complimentary data(after applying for the main package) and *777*23002# for each subsequent month(after each renewal).

Finally, if you have a Thai friend who can register a SIM for you, go GoMo/AIS: https://www.lazada.co.th/products/pdp-i4459346573-s17956372277.html

259 baht per month for Unlimited 15 Mbps.

Correction48 hours of Unlimited 10 Mbps is 102 baht via *777*7387#
