Every return to Thailand reminds me why I’ll be gone again very soon: nothing is ever on time or as promised, drivers who treat roads like death races, scams everywhere, and a constant risk of tropical diseases from dengue to rabies. Floods, earthquakes, two-tier pricing, dangling live power cables, ladyboys, short-fat Thai women, and daily unpredictability make escaping not just tempting, but totally blissful. Bang on Thailand appeals to the depraved and/or deprived but not a place that most with options would consider a place to live full time.

A bit of a generalization, as I'm sure 1000s, like myself would disagree with you. I can pretty much live anywhere, but quite enjoy living in TH. IF younger, I might change locations, for one of the same reasons I left the USA, 25 yr of adult life there was enough for me, as 25 yr living here in TH, is more than enough. Not much more to see or do here. But have no desire to start over elsewhere and quite happy to finish out here. Grass isn't always greener elsewhere, and too old and lazy to test a few places out. Certainly not going to take my wife away from all she knows, familiarity & family to appease my occasional boredom, or sense of adventure. When I crap out, hopefully not too soon, but then she'd be invested in an area with no real support or social structure. Aside from the fact, I can't think of a place that interests me, where I could have what I have, and live so inexpensively, and knock around the country when wanting, also inexpensively and easily. Having access to decent beach areas hotels, and rolling hills hotels even close to the same price points. TH has everything I need or could want, for our retirement. It's just a bit small, and I've seen most everything, though do surprise myself every once in a while when out discovering something new.

Been back to farangland 8 months every year the 3 last year's, and I start to think Thailand ain't that bad as I felt it was last years spring when the heat and smoke killed my wibe. Now all reset and plans for return as quick my wife have her new passport and citizenship. It is a privilige to have the opportunity to choose.

Tis a shame though , how truly messed up it all became . A case study on how terrible a "melting pot" can turn out !

November 8, 2025Nov 8 3 minutes ago, Cameroni said: What I wouldn't give to have been here 30 years ago. hmmmm, not so sure . hahaha Being in my mid thirties (40 years ago ! ) , there was actually a true sense of adventure . No internet. Hell, no cell phones ! It was hop on the train, or get on the motorcycle , and just head on out . A trip not unlike the old National Geographic . I don't regret any of the "learning process" one encounters when truly on their own. BUT.......the sexual playground (specifically the NON bar type) ..... was like a vast desert . About 20 years ago things began to improve , with dating sites, etc . And speaking thai , by that time, made my exploits in my 50's pretty special . (still crazy..lol ) So yep, long time ago was special, and mostly gone ( though thais in rural, non touristy areas are still very nice ) . But our lust was not so easy to fulfill in those "good ole days"

Just get a eSim from Airalo that will work on any Internet. How many people have been detained due to innocent texts that sound like anarchy, or threats to do bodily harm to someone?? Too Many.

And defiitely NOT allowed near the table when eating meals . yes, those are my rules . i do admit it would greatly lessen the playing field . but, its also a great way to find out who really wants to spend time with you . i suggest even stricter rules when dealing with children....... 🙂

I think laying down some rules is an aphrodisiac. Yes, not all would accept it, some are so hooked on their phones. But if she really wants to please you.
