The Border Wont Open, Thailand will be a Mess Soon

Featured Replies

Morning Coffee Rant:

The border closure affects Thailand to the tune of billions? Was it $30 billion dollars I saw? Did I see businesses  screaming for money from the Government? A government that is involved in the endless political yellow red war where everything done is not necessarily good for anyone but the partys promulgating the policy?

Cambodia? Well its just a Chinese satrap rice field with a cool toursit attraction propped up by foreign money and all the agricultural products it grows will be bought up by the Chinese. It doesnt need Thailand except as a source of luxury goods, Western foods, dairy, etc. It doesnt even need an real Army (a force wearing flip flops armed with vintage AKs and Chinese M4 knockoffs, as well as Cold War Artillery), it has China.

And now in the stores, we see Cambodian milk products, meats labeled "Cambodia".....

Now Hun Sen says something to the effect of well we didnt close the border, they did. They are the ones who have to open it.

No Thai government will be seen as submitting to the Cambodians. Now? With all that is coming in the endless Thai political battles.?

The border will not be opened withing the next 6 months to a year, assuming there is a civilian Thai government and not a military one and depending on circumstances. Some circumstances cant be discussed here. Others are, for example how hard the Thais are willing to take an economic screwing  while factions fight behind the scenes. Its not the 80s anymore. And whos going to do their legal grunt work, the Burmese? Building all those shoebox condos?

So Thailand is a political and economic powder keg that, like many other countries, is cracking down on illegal immigration. Thats means all foreigners are inconvenienced to a certain extent. Cambodia is easier, especially for Westerners, but its essentially a police state when it comes to the crackdown on scams to kill the image of Scambodia. Thats just the Chinese scum that flock here, smaller place so more visible than Bangkok,

And of course, for me, no border open, no spontaneous trips to civilization unless you want to get beat for airfare.

Both of these places are a mess and its their fault because they act like a bunch of brats. And they charge you to live here.

And yes, Im pulling up stakes from ASEAN. I know a bunch of expats who are too. I dont tell others to do so, some can ride it out just fine. But now its a place to visit not live anymore.

And of course, predictably, a mine blew off a Thai soldiers foot up by SiSaKet, the peace pact has been suspended, a Cambodian Senator indicted in Thailand.....

There is some big stuff going on behind the scenes.
