Four people were injured when a passenger bus collided head-on with a pickup truck on the Chumphon–Ranong highway early on November 13. The crash, which occurred amid fog and poor lighting, left the bus’s 21 passengers unharmed but caused damage to both vehicles.

The crash took place at around 03:25 near kilometre marker 29 in Moo 7, Wang Mai subdistrict, Mueang Chumphon district. Police and rescue teams from Wang Mai’s emergency response unit rushed to the scene after receiving reports of a collision between a Bangkok–Ranong interprovincial bus and a white Isuzu pickup truck.

The bus, registration from Bangkok, had veered off the road into a large roadside drainage ditch. All 24 people on board, including 21 passengers and three staff members, escaped injury. Rescue personnel assisted them out of the vehicle while arrangements were made for another bus to continue their journey to Ranong.

Nearby, the Isuzu pickup, registration from Chumphon, was found damaged at the front, with four occupants trapped inside. Rescue workers freed the injured and transported them to local hospitals, three to Wiratchsilp Hospital and one to Chumphon Khet Udomsak Hospital. One of the victims was reported to be in a critical condition and unconscious.

According to the bus driver, Mr. Sornchai, aged 49, he had departed Bangkok at 19:00 the previous evening and was approaching Ranong when the crash occurred. The section of road was under repair, forcing vehicles travelling in opposite directions to share the same carriageway. Combined with fog, poor visibility and the absence of street lighting, the conditions made driving hazardous. The pickup truck’s high beams reportedly further impaired the bus driver’s vision, leading to the collision.

Rescue volunteer Mr. Thawisak Homthip, from Wang Mai Unit 05, confirmed that visibility at the time was extremely poor due to the fog. He added that the ongoing road repairs meant there were no functioning streetlights, creating further difficulty for motorists.

The Daily News reported that authorities have urged drivers to exercise extreme caution during foggy conditions, particularly in early morning hours and throughout the cool season. Motorists are advised to reduce speed, use fog lights and maintain a safe distance to avoid similar incidents.
