Authorities have dismantled two drug trafficking operations in Chiang Mai, seizing over 3.5 million methamphetamine tablets and arresting two suspects. The coordinated raids were led by the Narcotics Suppression Bureau (NSB) alongside military and provincial security units, aimed at disrupting cross-border narcotics transport networks along Thailand’s northern frontier.

At a press briefing held on 13 November 2025 at the NSB Region 3 command centre in Chiang Mai, Pol. Lt. Gen. Acharayuth Kraithong, NSB Commissioner and Lt. Gen. Chaidaen Krisanasuwan, Deputy Commander of the Northern Border Narcotics Suppression Unit, revealed details of the twin operations. The seizures involved collaborative work between NSB Division 3, Provincial Police Region 5, Border Patrol Police Region 3 and several local agencies.

In the first case, officers from NSB Division 3 tracked an ethnic drug trafficking network with a safe house in Ban Thap Duea, Inthakhin Subdistrict, Mae Taeng District. On 11 November 2025, surveillance teams spotted a suspicious Isuzu box truck with Bangkok plates driving erratically through the area. When signalled to stop, the vehicle sped off, later losing control and veering off the road. Police apprehended two suspects and discovered 1.43 million meth pills concealed in secret compartments within the truck.

The second case unfolded on 12 November 2025 in Ban Mae On Nai, Mae Na Subdistrict, Chiang Dao District, where intelligence indicated narcotics had been stashed in a longan orchard. After extensive surveillance, police uncovered 11 sacks containing approximately 2.1 million methamphetamine tablets, hidden beneath dried branches near Ban Mae Khanin village. The drugs were seized and sent to NSB Division 3 for further investigation.

Pol. Lt. Gen. Acharayuth emphasised that drug suppression remains a top national security priority under government policy, calling meth trafficking a severe threat to communities. He praised the joint efforts of police, military and civilian authorities while urging public cooperation in reporting suspicious activities. Investigators are now working to trace the wider network and identify those behind the large-scale shipments from Myanmar’s border regions.

Key Takeaways

• Authorities seized 3.5 million meth pills in two major operations across Chiang Mai on 11–12 November 2025.

• Two suspects were arrested after one vehicle chase and a separate drug cache discovery in a longan orchard.

• Police vow to expand the investigation to uncover the full network behind the cross-border smuggling.
