Let's be frank. Where one materializes on this planet is dumb luck. We all benefit from that dumb luck if born in the US, as it's pretty easy to become successful. People who fail to achieve greatness in the US are just incredibly lucky they weren't whelped as a female in rural Bangladesh, or in a gang-infested, corrupt, or autocratic regime somewhere else.

 

Some of us understand that our success in life and our wealth owes much more to where we were born and to whom, than any great skill or deserving behavior on our part. Much of life is determined at birth, from where one was born to the intellect, appearance, physical characteristics like height, athletic ability, etc., we inherited. Being honest about that tends to make a person more empathetic.

 

People who could only reach a low level in the US, such as being a truck driver, ought to have the self-awareness to know they are only where they are because of an accident of birth, not through any special skill or goodness they have. Had they been born somewhere else, odds are long they would have anywhere near the same comfort that their birth accident handed them. Of course it tends to be those people---most of whom are MAGAs---who are most vocal about "those illegals" and who cheer the masked stormtroopers roughing up female garment workers.

Each country, US included, should protect borders from unwanted entries, and make a significant separation between legal and illegal entries, with legal immigrants given path to living, working and, if desired, becoming citizens, while nothing other than immediate deportation and blacklisting should be on the table for the illegal arrivals.

 

Someone moving legally to another country has to go through hell of paperwork and processes to get permission to set foot there. Illegals just bypass all that and cross a shallow river or take a dinghy. It is not fair to all those who went through the process that someone completely ignorant to the laws and order gets the same treatment once on the other side.

 

True, there are real asylum seekers, fleeing for their lives, and those can be handled differently. But economic migrants should be dealt with in some other way.

 

Challenge is that illegals are seen by business owners as a cheap and easy to exploit workforce as well. A problem widely spread in Thailand as well.

Not the same thing, but I get the logic. It is one thing to find and detain those who illegally entered the country, and a very different one to revoke visa of someone who legally entered but disagrees with the President, doing so without informing that individual, then arresting them for being in country illegally and deporting them.

 

Can you imagine immigration cancelled your visa today. Tomorrow they knock you down in the middle of the street, and throw you in jail for being illegally in the country before deporting you to Papua New Guinea?

 

Regardless, I believe my stand on legal/illegal immigration is clear from a few posts up. Those who illegally entered the country, any country, should be arrested and deported.
