Buried in Thailand.

Featured Replies

Sorry for this morbid post,I know that death in Thailand usually results in cremation, but are there any cemeteries in Thailand other than Muslim or Chinese for those who do not want to be cremated.

Yes the Catholic Church on Sukhumvit Pattaya klang, next door to the Muslim temple, has a cemetery.

Yes there are.

In my town there is a cemetery specifically for foreigners with no bias as to race or religion.

The majority are British, Dutch and Japanese

In which town?

Most Catholic and Christian churches have a cemetary, particularly where they are communities or villages which are "Christian". Here in Chiang Rai there are several such "Christian villages" with cemetaries, as well as the main Catholic cemetary in the city; and of course many of the hill tribe villages, which are often Christian, have cemetaries. You normally have to be a parishoner to be buried there. Certainly in the Catholic faith cemetaries are "Consecrated Ground" and are firmly tied to the church.  I don't know for sure, but as Muslims favour burial I am sure they would have cemetaties linked to their mosques.

Just tried a quick Google. Searching Christian Churches and my province. Map appears with Protestant, Catholic etc. Phone numbers listed on most.

There's a Foreign plot  up here in Chiang Mai ,donated by King Chulalongkorn in 1898 I have had a plot there for several years now,

just keep trying not to use it ,it cost 15, 000 Baht ,expect it will be more now ,as everything

has gone up in price.

regards Worgeordie

I live in Rawai, Phuket there is one here, not sure who is allowed to be burred there or is it just a Muslim grave yard, I know there is a few Chinese ones dotted around the island,

Just make sure they don't bury you in the Pet Semetary.  Herman Munster wanders around saying "the soil's sour" and "sometimes dead is better" in a forced accent.

There are a surprising number of Catholics in Thailand.  I'd contact a church and ask them.

C.ontact any Christian church in Thailand and they will be connected with a grave yard.   A friend of mine buried in the Nang Rong area a couple of years ago.  Cost his wife 22,000 bht.

The thing about remembrance days is that with the passage of time, not a single living person will remember anymore.

I rather being cremated and released in the open  sea, so I can continue my journey around the globe.

Or wifey can put me on the shelf and give me  cognac once and awhile when she feels for it, and want my ghost to be happy.

Very best use for a human body as I understand is to be rendered down into fertiliser pellets. We do it all the time with animals. Unfortunately, ethical reasons prevent same being done with humans.

We lime them down, and put trees above them. Latest today we had to put down one of our sheep’s.  and if my wife could put me in the ground on our farm, I would love her to do the same to me.

Interestingly, after 80 years since the end of WW2, around 200 people attend the Remembrance Day Service in Chiang Mai. Of course, in this part of the World, the Korean and Vietnam Wars are also remembered. Personally, I believe Remembrance Day will be honoured for many years to come.

I did not put a limit on the passage of time, but every person and every war will eventually be 100% forgotten..

.Famous people and wars will continue to live as  footnotes in textbooks for a XXXXX amount of time..... But eventually even that will all be forgotten too as it's lost in the midst of time..

Your question hopefully will help a lot of foreigners living in Thailand make the right decision.

There is also a foreigners cemetery in CM,  (on the way to Nong Hoi), on the CM -Lamphun road,

Mainly the occupants are WW2 casualties from the Allied Forces.

I visited there before Covid for a Remembrance ceremony, but It is possible they may be open for more recent burials.

Worth checking.

To whoever is giving me the thumbs down....

I guess you folks have been slacking off on celebrating all the great war victories of the Sumerians who existed between c. 5500 – c. 1800 BC ...................  thats 3700 years by the way.

O... I guess you must have FORGOTTEN about the Sumerian wars..

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sumer

In that 3700-year period AI can only muster up a measly 23 wars all the other 100s and 100s if not 1000s of wars from then have been completely forgotten, even by AI....

If you want to know the future look at the past....

The Same will happen to War War 1 and 2 and the Korean war and the Vietnam war and the Gulf war etc.....They will all be completely 100% forgotten in time....
