Question about Thailand scammers

Featured Replies

My point for making this post is that I just don't want to see people getting unnecessarily hurt in this beautiful country.

I suspect these scammers may have been operating for a long time and therefore known to authorities and a target for arrest.

I'm in a remote part of Thailand. I've encountered some potential scammers. My suspicion is that they're in this region because they're on the run and looking for new victims in more remote areas. I can't confirm that suspicion.

I'm being somewhat vague because  potential scammers might be scanning social media so that they know when to jump ship.

My question is:

Is there any point in reporting to the authorities what I've observed and WHERE WOULD BE THE BEST PLACE TO REPORT THAT? Reporting it to the local police would no doubt be absurd. Anyone who has spent a enough time in Thailand would understand that.

I know these people face to face and they're willing to send me Thai ID photos in return for money. I'm going on the assumption that some criminals are stupid enough to send the real deal if they think they can get away with it in some remote area. In fact I could probably organize to take a photo of actual physical cards - but I have no idea if these things can be manufactured to order.

And no obviously I'm not actually going to give these people money 😁

Don't get involved. PERIOD.

If you feel really strongly, you need a Thai person to file a Police report at the provincial capital police station, not locally.

Unless it directly effects you never get involved and let Thais deal with Thai issues.

Actually I think I agree with you 100%. These people have probably been playing these scams for years and know exactly how to put someone who complains about them in hot water. Just to protect themselves.

I agree with the advice posted above (stay out of it), but just out of curiosity, what specifically makes you suspect that they are scammers? Have they attempted to scam you or someone you know? What kind of scam do you suspect they're running?
