Cvt gearbox problem recommendations?

Featured Replies

Our Suzuki ciaz Cvt gearbox was stuck in parking mode so used the shift lock button to unlock, and Yes i can move the gearstick up and down but nothing happens now...i cant move the car anywhere..does anyone have idea what could be the problem? This happend after we drove in steep mountains..

Contact a Suzuki dealer and ask there for an answer without committing to a tow ! If they won't give  go to a general workshop.

With cvt it is  either expensive collapse  or a simple cheaper shift solenoid issue.

As improbable as it may seem try a disconnect of the battery for about 20 minutes and see what happnens .

Did you drive up hill with the transmission in D/drive position? And if so was the transmission shifting through the gears while driving uphill? If so, then you probably burned the solenoid pack and overheated the tranny. In any case, use a single low gear climbing hills especially on small vehicles.

Unfortunately Yes i did,it was shifting down to low gear(1 st?) in the beginning of the hill and then used same gear until it was moore flat so not to heavy shifting..after we passed the mountain i drove for another 20 km and everything was fine,it was when i parked the car it got stuck in parking..and then(now) it feels like no hydraulic in the gearbox..i move it,but nothing happens, still show P on the display..

Longshot but got this from Google: "If these steps don't work, check your brake lights, as a faulty brake light switch will prevent shifting"..The car has a broken back light from before..could this really have some connection with the gearbox?

All recommendations ar most welcome as we are about 500 km from home and this happened. My gearbox knowledge is limited to say..

If the transmission has a dipstick then check the fluid level, though many transmissions these days are sealed and don’t have a dipstick. Other than that it sounds more like mechanical issue, solenoid, belt or valve body in which case it will need to be worked on. Best case scenario is that it’s low on fluid, or changing the entire fluid sometimes does the trick. Would advise not to force the vehicle to drive with transmission issues, it’ll just make things worse. Anyway, bummer you’re so far from home, best of luck.

It has a dipstick and i checked the fluid level just last week-ok,recently changed the gearbox oil about 6 month ago..Thank you for advise!

Do you have any idea how much time a garage would need to fix it if its a mechanical issue ? Do they most likely need to take out the transmission from the car?

That will depend on the availability of the parts, the mechanic and what the problem is, two hours-two or three days. Don’t know this transmission though the solenoid and the valve body are easily accessible by removing the pan, if the parts are on hand and available then it shouldn’t take much more than a couple hours to run the obd2 scanner, lift the vehicle and and change the parts. If the transmission needs to be rebuilt then most likely it should be replaced, quicker and usually cheaper.

I trust using the correct or Suzuki recommended oil. CVT's have a reputation for being picky about the oil.

Update: problem solved already and its working..amazing..Gear cable boot(google translate) was the problem. Local mechanic shop sent a technician and 30 min/200 b(+tip) its runs normal. He said this problem happens often with auto gearbox, not about overheating..he recommended to change that plastic piece to a aluminium or copper. Thank you for your time and good advice!
