A 75-year-old man was fatally stabbed in the chest following an argument with neighbours during a drinking session in Ban Thum, Mueang Khon Kaen District. Police have taken a 51-year-old woman into custody, suspecting she may have acted on behalf of her husband.

 

The incident occurred at around 00:30 on 21 November 2025 near a community hall in Ban Thum, after authorities received a report of a violent altercation. Police, accompanied by a duty doctor from Khon Kaen Hospital and rescue volunteers from Sawang Khon Kaen Samakkhi Utthit, attended the scene.

 

Officers found the victim, identified as Mr. Samrong, lying in a pool of blood with a 20-inch knife nearby. The suspect, Mrs. Namkang, 51, was present at the scene and was taken to Ban Ped Police Station for further questioning.

 

Neighbours reported that the victim had been drinking with Mrs. Namkang and her partner at her home. Witnesses said a heated argument escalated after the victim was reportedly threatened, leading him to confront the threat. Mrs. Namkang’s daughter allegedly pleaded with her mother not to intervene, but witnesses claimed Mrs. Namkang insisted on confronting Mr. Samrong, saying she wanted him dead and was not afraid of imprisonment.

 

Mrs. Namkang had recently rented a property in the area for about two months and had known the victim, with whom she often drank and argued. Police noted that ongoing disputes between the two were frequent.

 

SiamRath reported that Deputy Superintendent Suriyan Phunobthong of Ban Ped Police Station stated that they are not yet certain Mrs. Namkang acted alone. Authorities suspect her husband may have been involved and she could be taking the blame on his behalf. Investigators are conducting detailed interviews and collecting evidence to determine the precise circumstances and identify the actual perpetrator.
