TR Evisa from Malaysia (Processing time)

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone,

My visa exempt runs out towards end of year. Can't extend it. I'll be going to Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) and applying for Tourist (TR) Evisa from there. I'm wondering if anyone has any experience how long the process takes from the day your docs are uploaded and submitted online? I know the website stayed 5-10 biz days but wanted to see how long it actually took based on people's experience so that I know how much room to give myself for return ticket.  Thanks in advance

No help from me as haven't read any recent reports.

Just bumping your thread.

@Tod Daniels often has recent reports..

Personally if obtaining eVisa anywhere I would book flight after visa confirmation.

Exactly that's my concern. That processing ends up taking bit longer for whatever reason and i miss flight. Thanks for your input 🙂

At least as far as DTV goes, any embassy/consulate in Malaysia is one of the absolute worst places to go in SE Asia.  They nitpick every little thing.  Request the same information that you already submitted multiple times.  And take at least a month to process the application when other places like Vietnam do it in 5 days.

If that's any indication, I would avoid Malaysia.

This helps plenty. Thank you

General question; can I apply for a Tourist eVisa as a non-resident (tourist), and what documents would I need (e.g. in Phnom Penh, Saigon, HCMC, KL, Sydney)?

You need the documents that are listed on the specific embassy website that you plan to apply through.  They each set their own requirements.

Thanks. The Sydney consulate's website insists that one has to be a resident there (NSW), and the Hanoi embassy's info is as clear as mud...

However, Google's AI Mode claims: "Yes, you absolutely can apply for the Thailand e-Visa for tourism from any country you are currently in, as the system is designed for online, worldwide application, allowing you to apply from anywhere with internet access, even if you're already traveling in a third country, provided you meet the general requirements like a valid passport, onward ticket, and funds."

Everywhere you listed will allow a tourist application.  I would avoid Cambodia as they are giving people gruff who enter from there.  Most people are going to Vietnam.  Avoid Malaysia as they are incredibly strict and take a long time to process.  Laos is another option.
