Trump Says he Plans to Pardon Former Honduran President Hernandez for 2024 Drug Trafficking Sentence

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump said Friday that he will be pardoning former Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernandez, who in 2024 was convicted for drug trafficking and weapons charges and sentenced to 45 years in prison.

The president explained his decision on Truth Social by posting that “according to many people that I greatly respect,” Hernandez was “treated very harshly and unfairly

I don't know if it's dementia or insanity behind this decision. What's next? Will he appoint this guy to be interim president of Venezuela?

Trump's passion for justice is only outweighed by his passion for pardons. At least if you're a wealthy or well connected felon.

Haha.

At first I thought it was Hunter instead of Honduran.

How many people did Biden Pardon?

We should keep score.

He may be about to wage war in order to depose what he claims is a drug dealing president of a Latin American country. And while engaged in that effort, he pardons another drug dealing president of a Latin American country?

Yours a pretty weak effort at deflection.

This is clearly nuts.

A mistake is an oops moment. Profiting from drug dealing by using your power as president of a country is massively criminal. Trump supporters claim that  through drug dealing Maduro is waging war on America. Was the ex-president of Honduras waging peace on America?

But I've got to give credit to Fox News. I just went to their homepage and... Oh my mistake. So far, not mentioned.

Yes, I'm sure the former Honduran President just dallied in drugs and weapons trafficking for maybe an hour one afternoon, and then came to his senses.

OTOH, there's this guy in the US with 34 felony convictions, a civil conviction for sexual assault, a conviction for charity fraud, and absent a trial, likely a guy convicted of stealing highly classified documents and then lying about it, trying to force a State SecState to commit voter fraud, and even quite likely trying to overthrow 250 years of US democracy.

Now THAT screams recidivist!

Maybe Trump has an affinity for criminals operating from Caribbean islands.

Trump makes a big show of blowing the hired out of the water without due process, and then letting the bigwigs at the top who had their day in court walk, keeping America safe from drugs, Trump style.

I just checked the Fox News homepage again to see if this story has surfaced there. So far, no. I suspect they're hoping for a TACO, a dish often served by Trump.

Trump plans 'full and complete pardon' for former Honduran president convicted of drug trafficking

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said Hernández. who was sentenced in New York last year to 45 years in prison for conspiring with drug traffickers to move over 400 tons of cocaine into the U.S., was "treated very harshly and unfairly."

According to an article in the Wall St. Journal, one of the people whose sense of justice Trump respects enough to warrant this pardon is none other than Roger Stone.

Fox News now has now reported this story. It's way down on their home page. Below is the text of that part of the article that deals with Hernandez apart from the quotes from Trump.

"President Trump announced Friday he intends to issue a "full and complete pardon" to former Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernández, while simultaneously reaffirming his support for presidential candidate Nasry "Tito" Asfura just days before Hondurans head to the polls.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said Hernández. who was sentenced in New York last year to 45 years in prison for conspiring with drug traffickers to move over 400 tons of cocaine into the U.S., was "treated very harshly and unfairly.

Hernández was convicted in March 2024 on charges of conspiring to import cocaine into the U.S. and two related weapons offenses after a two-week trial, according to The Associated Press

Most of the article deals with the current candidate for President whom Trump supports. Clearly, Fox wants as little to do with this story as it can get away with.

He already asked for his release in January.

So now we have an idea of who might be behind this self-defeating maneuver of  Trump's.

So Hernandez championed Próspera. which" is also backed by multiple investors, including Balaji Srinivasan, Peter Thiel, and Marc Andreessen, through the venture capital firm Pronomos Capital.[15] "

Peter Thiel is the guy who Vance used to work for and who sponsored Vance's run for the Senate.

Maybe in the alternative universe you inhabit. But not true in this one:

Drug traffickers profit from end of intelligence cooperation between Colombia and the US
Gustavo Petro has suspended the sending of confidential information to the Donald Trump administration, but Washington was already offering little cooperation to Bogotá and other key allies

Drug traffickers Colombia and the US rejoice.

Colombian President Gustavo Petro ordered Colombian intelligence services to suspend the transfer of information to U.S. agencies on Tuesday night, ending decades of bilateral cooperation through a publication on X. “This measure will remain in effect as long as the missile attacks on boats in the Caribbean continue,” he explained. The news has not yet received a response from President Donald Trump or his Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, but the reduction in intelligence cooperation is not unique to Colombia. In recent days, both the United Kingdom and the Netherlands, which do not have such a tense relationship with the White House but do have territories in the Caribbean, have also limited the intelligence they send to Washington.

But you would have to be an idiot not to be seriously concerned by this as a Trump supporter and at minimum require a full explanation why this should be a thing. It's good we can agree on that. Thanks.
