Ahead of the 50th anniversary celebrations for Lao National Day, held on December 2, authorities in Vientiane have issued a traffic advisory warning residents and visitors to avoid many central roads from November 28 to December 2.

The alert comes from the Vientiane Department of Public Works and Transport under directives from the city’s mayor and administrative body. Streets such as Kaysone Phomvihane Road, Lane Xang Avenue, Souphanouvong Road, Setthathirath Road, Samsenthai Road, and others near major landmarks will face closures or heavy traffic due to parades, security operations, and logistical setups for official ceremonies.

To ease congestion, the city has established alternative routes. Commuters are encouraged to use bypasses through expressways and outer roads such as the Ban Xay Moungkhun Expressway, Nong Buek Road, Dongdok, or the 450-Year Road. On December 2 alone, from 4:00 AM to 8:00 PM, a full closure will be in effect on Lane Xang Avenue between Hor Kham and the Phonsaart intersection to make way for the main parade.

Officials ask drivers to follow traffic police instructions, urging patience and cooperation as thousands of spectators and international guests gather for cultural performances, a military parade, and evening flyovers celebrating half a century of Laos’ independence.
