Is this a joke, or are Skype techs ignorant?

Featured Replies

Just received this email from Skype.

So how I'm gonna make a call or send a SMS from a service that doesn't exist any more?

It may help if you said exactly what it is you are suggesting they are ignorant of?

At least they are letting you know.

Do you want to claim that Skype still exist, since they say send a message DIRECT FROM SKYPE.

Skype still exists within Team. I still use my existing credit.

No Skype does not exist anymore, you can use your Skype credit in Teams, I have been told. But when I tried to make a call a few months ago it simply didn't work.

When using the app on my phone there is still a Skype Dial pad. At least for me it still works.

Is your point that you have received a message from Skype when Skype Personal services have been shut down - ergo their tech guys must be incompetent ?

I have just used it from the Skype Dial Pad within MS Teams or I can go direct using the web link https://calling.web.skype.com/ . It will remain as long as I still have credit and use it at least once every 180 days.

Seems like you are being a little pedantic........

However others have already said it works.....

I used the dial pad on the web portal only last week to make a call and had no issues - other than having to remember to allow the use of the microphone in the browser which I had forgotten.........:whistling:

(not a Skype or MSN problem but my own settings)

I think this might be a 'user interface error'....

... sometimes also known as being technically challenged......

Callum - try going into AI and getting step by step instructions to help you though using skype through Teams perhaps...

You need to get in touch with Microsoft, I had a problem when Skype closed and I still had money in the account. Not exactly a perfect solution, but the agent from MS set me up with an "ONLINE KEYPAD" and that is all it is, no bells or whistles. They basically transferred my balance to this keypad so that I can use up my outstanding balance.

Skype is working perfectly under Teams and I can use my credit as usual.

Is this some new #metoo movement where people who don't know how to use their remaining Skype balance congregate?

He seems to have Asperger's syndrome Richard, have more patience.

Teams is designed primarily for business users. Use yo your credits and find an alternative. I use a US based service that has been cheap and reliable, Possible Digits.

When I tried to use Teams for phone calls to the States, every time I tried a corporate phone number, I received an error message saying something to the effect of 'Can not connect. Your contact does not use Teams yet.')

I switched to 'MyTello' and made all the calls I needed, at 0.3 Baht per minute.
Log in with your desired International phone number, and immediately receive a Bangkok number to call. Call that Bangkok number and it transfers automatically to your intended contact! Easy to set up and even easier to use!

Skype as we know it doesn't exist anymore, teams is a completely ridiculous system that's built for businesses with many users. For a single user like myself I used to find tremendous utility from Skype, no longer.

I now use Fanytel (two way calls and SMS, with a dedicated #) and Rebtel (calls only) for international communication.

Callum,

Try the following:

·         Skype Dial Pad:  https://calling.web.skype.com

After May 5, 2025, the Skype Dial Pad will be available to remaining paid users from the Skype web portal and within Teams.

Probably only US 800 numbers are free.

Are you trying to make an issue over the difference between the skype service and skype numbers.

Check what AI says.

  • Porting your number:
If you want to keep your Skype number long-term, you need to port it to another provider, such as Google Voice or a different VoIP service, before the subscription expires.
  • Skype numbers:
If you have an existing Skype number, it will continue to work until its subscription expires, but you must use the dial pad in Teams or the web portal to make calls and receive calls through the Skype service.

I think they will transfer you credit over to Microsoft Teams and you are supposed to start using Teams in place of Skype

I don't know what you mean by "that Skype web site"

The message I received back in May -

Dear Skype User,

We’re reaching out with a few important updates about how you’ll continue using your Skype paid services.
Starting today, Skype will begin rolling out the new Skype Dial Pad, available on the Skype web portal or Teams Free. Customers with an active calling subscription and/or Skype Credit can continue to:
  • Make outgoing calls using the Skype Dial Pad.
  • Receive incoming calls to your Skype Number for the remainder of their subscription.
Please note: The Skype Dial Pad will only be visible if you have active Skype Credit or an active subscription. If your Skype Credit is inactive, you’ll need to reactivate it via My Account. For incoming calls on web portal, please ensure your browser is open to receive alerts.

Here’s how to get started:
  • Log in to the web portal or Teams Free with your Skype credentials.
  • Access the Skype Dial Pad and continue using your Skype paid services.

For more details on how to access the Skype Dial Pad in the Skype web portal and Teams Free, please check out the FAQ.

Going to the link for the web portal you have to sign in with your Skype name/password and it should then take you to a page showing your contacts, some other headings, amount of credit and a dialler - if you cannot get to that then there are other issues.

If you have that but cannot make a call then you need to be a bit more descriptive as to what happens or doesn't happen and your actions?

If you are using Teams or trying to then someone else will have to help as I have no knowledge of Teams.

Yes, the dial pad to make outgoing calls does not work for me.  I did activate my account recently.  I will try again.  Thank you for your help.
