Thailand eases alcohol sales restrictions, effective 3 December

Before when I finished work at the Port I used to stop at the service station on the drive home for a couple of beers. Was the same with many other people. Music, food, beers lovely.

That first service station outside Sirachar must have lost a good trade.

It was Prayut who stopped the alcohol sales at servos at the same time as railway and bus stations.

No, on the 24 hour you do not need am or pm. 12.01 is a minute after the noon meridian

The world doesn't run on the 24 hour clock. How many people do you know that say 17 hundred hours rather than 5 o'clock?

Good to see that it made a big difference to the road toll. 🙂

Yep. Just more I'm the boss nonsense. There's always a mom and pop shop not far from a service station. If someone wants to drink they'll drink.

Well, I have become almost a non drinker due to my age, so am no longer

excited by any drinking restrictions.  I guess this applies to the young

travellers and the drinkers from 20 to 60 years old.  Carry on....

So we must all follow you and give up at 60?

I would rather kick it a year or so early than to give up one of my pleasures.

It would seem that all those who argued that I was wrong on this matter were indeed themselves wrong. No apologies needed.

OMG. You just can't admit that you posted this doesn't apply to retail sales.

What are you dribbling about ?

People like myself have been pointing this out to you since it was announced but you continued to fight back. Glad you've seen the light and accepted you were wrong. This change will not be reversed IMO. Next step will be to open before the ridiculous 11 am start and extend the midnight cut off both of which are not founded in common sense.

The original language did not exclude retail in its time exclusions only the 3 venues exempted znd listed. The current iteration posted does for 180 days with provincial input.  At least i admit an error ir change when  find one.

Alas you continue to argue. People told you this includes retail. You refused to accept this. Now you try and deflect with the 180 days which we all knew was in the change. You say you admit an error yet you would not listen to people telling you the change was nation wide and included retail. Well it's nation wide and includes retail. Have some humility and stop digging your hole deeper.

The intial announcement did not include retail outlets so <deleted> my why you pulling your penis so hard over it all.

One hour ago at 14.45 hrs in Lotus’s I was behind a lady at checkout who put a bottle of Hong Thong to be checked through. I thought “U oh, you’re gonna be disappointed “.
My flabber was ghasted as the bottle checked through.

Hurrah!

Your reading comprehension is not good. Basically it said the 2-5 pm will be lifted and the exceptions remain the same. This was pretty clear. BTW fortunately I have a penis to pull. Not sure about you. Have you transitioned?

Interesting. I went to my local Lotus and the 2-5 prohibition signs were everywhere in the alcohol aisle. Seems they haven't got the memo yet, are slow to act on it or like some on here don't understand what's just happened.

Alas you resort to this when you know you're wrong. The actions of a child.

Keep arguing. It makes you look good.

I'm not the one arguing. I pointed out to you when this was first announced that the lifting of the 2-5 ban included retail sales. You were the one who argued that this wasn't the case. Tell me does the adjustment of the law now allow for retail sales of alcohol between the hours of 2-5 pm?

My Mrs has told me that Mom&Pop shops selling petrol cannot sell booze. Is this correct?

not in our village,  they sell both,     petrol is expensive though and it would take hours to fill the car up       My mrs gets  educated from facebook too , I am here long enough to simply disregard most of what she tells me,  Thank god there was no facebook when I was a newbie here ,as I was quite dependant on the ex mrs whilst I was still finding my feet.

I find most things easier if I do them alone nowadays ,

Banking being a prime  example, I prefer to deal with immigration  alone too, although whilst that's not always possible on a marriage visa, but  she knows and prefers to speak only when spoken to

Not a very helpful article, they should have spelled out in obvious terms whether retail sales would continue with the 2:00-5:00pm prohibition. Though they say venues, which suggest bars and I suppose restaurants. In terms of the strict definition of the term venue, it refers to places where events are held, so I suppose no events take place at supermarkets 7-11s, so we are supposed to deduce that  no you still cant buy something nice at a ridiculously taxed price whenever you like every once in awhile.

Ma and Pa corner shops of course will usually ignore the hours anyway. But I dont have any confidence either that the people or whatever they are at Tiger Magazine are particularly concerned with the legal/academic  meaning of the word venue. And really one has to ask why are bars and restaurants venues, ie, places where events are held. A few of them hold events sporadically, live music seems heavuly resistricted in Thailand, its quite rare for a bar to have a band apart from obvious tourista strips. So is going to have a drink by yourself an event, as this is about all most bars in Thailand host? I suppose for me it is, but then for me going to a supermarket or a 7-11 is an event as well, but I dont imagine Tiger magazine would consider it as such.

That said I see the very helpful photo from off of the fridge door to the beer section at one of our sparkling glamourous 7/11-Family Mart venues. A case in point that a picture is worth more than 225 words from one of today's post-journalism shill-a-zines.

Thanks. It was 7-11. Amazing some on here still can't grasp the reality of what's happened.

The stupid f**king b*stards have woken up to smell the coffee. I couldn't even plan an evening with friends with some wine and go shopping in the afternoon.

The article was very clear only 3 venues were exempt from time restrictions. Go back and read it.

I went back and read it again.
I repeat

Nowhere in the article did it state that retail sales are still restricted.

Maybe you misunderstood this section

Exceptions to the Ban

The sales restrictions do not apply to:

  1. International airport terminals serving outbound passengers

  2. Licensed entertainment venues operating during legally permitted hours

  3. Licensed hotels

which means that these 3 type of venues do not have alcohol sales banned between midnight and 11 am.

The original proposal excluded retail and only included 3 exempt venues and was later changed which i acknowledged. Thats the end of it or are you not man enough or too ignorant to accept that?

Grow up and stop your whining.  Do you need a nappie to comfort you?
