The Royal Thai Navy apprehended eight Chinese men on 2 December 2025 after they were trying to illegally cross the border in Pong Nam Ron District, Chanthaburi Province, in what authorities believe was an attempt to escape intensified cyber-scam suppression operations in Myanmar. The group was found in a fruit orchard in Ban Nong Krathing by the Chanthaburi–Trat Border Defense Command under the Chanthaburi Marine Task Force. Officers transferred the men into formal custody as investigations began into their movements and intended onward travel.

According to Rear Admiral Paraj Ratanajaipan, Navy spokesperson, all eight men gave similar accounts during initial questioning, stating they had fled Myanmar through an informal route. Their escape followed a major crackdown targeting cyber-scam syndicates and transnational criminal networks operating along the Myanmar border. Investigators said the group had been transported and abandoned in the area while waiting to be moved toward Cambodia, a well-known corridor for illegal labour smuggling.

Authorities coordinated with Ban Plaeng Police Station and the Chanthaburi Immigration Office to proceed with legal action. The Navy stressed that the arrests were carried out under strict adherence to international humanitarian principles. Officers emphasised that the operation applied only the minimum force necessary and clearly identified themselves before taking the men into custody.

The Navy outlined the procedural steps taken to ensure transparency and public confidence, including documenting the arrest, safeguarding the individuals without unnecessary restraints and informing them of their rights. Initial questioning was conducted without threats or coercion and a complete arrest record was submitted to local police. Officers also prepared the men for transfer to Immigration authorities for repatriation procedures in line with established standards.

Officials added that basic welfare, including food, drinking water and essential care, was provided throughout the process. The case highlights ongoing cross-border movement linked to cyber-scam networks operating in the region, which have faced increasing pressure from coordinated enforcement operations. Authorities say these enforcement efforts in Myanmar have prompted a rise in irregular crossings as syndicate workers or victims attempt to relocate to neighbouring countries.

Thaitabloid reported that further steps will involve Immigration authorities initiating repatriation procedures while police continue reviewing information provided by the men to determine possible links to cyber-scam networks. Officers expect ongoing regional cooperation to remain critical as neighbouring countries work to suppress transnational crime and prevent illegal border movements.
