A 51-year-old man has been charged after fatally shooting his 54-year-old wife in Nakhon Phanom’s Ban Phaeng district, an attack witnessed by their son-in-law and described by police as a serious domestic-violence killing. The victim, Sasithorn, known locally as “Kru Ting” , was shot with a .38 revolver, through her left arm and then going through her oung. She died later at Ban Phaeng Hospital, prompting a rapid police investigation and arrest. Officers said the case has deeply unsettled the community due to the family conflict and the presence of relatives during the incident.

Police detained the suspect, Tharadol Sanchanthicha, known as “Mae”, on 2 December after questioning him at Ban Phaeng Police Station. He told investigators he had harboured resentment for 16 years, dating back to the sale of a 29-rai rubber plantation for 1.2 million baht, which he claimed caused long-running disputes over money. He said he asked his wife for 10,000 baht on the day of the incident and when she refused, he lost his temper, fired one shot and fled to his sister’s home intending to surrender later.

Investigators recovered a single .38 cartridge case at the scene and later arrested Tharadol with a homemade firearm hidden under his motorcycle seat. A urine test detected narcotics and he admitted to taking methamphetamine before the shooting. Police also confirmed he had two prior cases in 2024 involving drugs and firearms.

Family members strongly disputed the suspect’s account, alleging that the motive was not financial resentment but prolonged drug-fuelled violence. The couple’s daughter, Thanyanat, said her father had been a heavy methamphetamine user who repeatedly threatened to kill her mother, forcing the victim to stay with her children in recent months out of fear. Son-in-law Thatthatep described the victim tearfully as irreplaceable and said the family had long feared a tragedy would occur.

Daily News reported that police have charged Tharadol with five offences: murder, illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition, carrying a weapon in public, discharging a gun in a community without justification and using a Type 1 narcotic. Officers have submitted the case to investigators for further legal proceedings. Authorities are continuing to gather evidence ahead of prosecution, while the victim’s family prepares for legal and funeral arrangements.
