A French tourist was rescued after slipping on rocks and breaking his ankle at the top tier of Hin Lad Waterfall on Koh Samui on the afternoon of 7 December 2025. The evacuation took four hours and involved multiple agencies who trekked up steep, fading-light terrain to reach him. Officials said the rescue was made possible in part by a group of Thai students who stayed with the injured man until help arrived.

The incident occurred in the uppermost section of Hin Lad Waterfall in Ang Thong subdistrict. Koh Samui Hospital’s Narenthorn 1669 emergency centre received a report that a foreign visitor had fallen on the rocks and could not walk. Poonchai Khamloon, acting chief of the local Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office, coordinated district officials, marine police, Royal Thai Air Force personnel from Samui Naval Air Station and local rescue foundations to respond.

Rescue teams began ascending the trail as daylight waned, reaching the scene more than an hour later. They found seven male students assisting the tourist, identified as Christophe, a 48-year-old French national. The students said they had been hiking ahead of him when they saw him step onto a large boulder, slip and fall.

With no phone signal in the area, the group stayed with the injured man while another hiker went down the trail to call emergency services. Once on-site, rescuers used ropes and rescue equipment to lower Christophe through rugged terrain with darkness falling. The operation required careful coordination due to the steep landscape and limited visibility.

Khoasod reported the injured tourist was eventually brought to a waiting ambulance and transported to Koh Samui Hospital. Medical officials confirmed he was in stable condition after treatment. Christophe expressed gratitude to both the students and the rescue teams for their assistance.

Hope the recovery and treatment go well...

Well done to the students who helped him...

Very fortunate for him that those students witnessed what happened to him and assisted him until the rescue team arrived. His own stupidity could have been his downfall. Climbing around on boulders near a waterfall, possibly with inadequate footwear, is a recipe for disaster. The idiots lucky he only broke his ankle, it could have been his neck.
