Recommendation for Memory Foam mattress topper

Featured Replies

Hi, I'm looking for first hand recommendations on a good quality memory foam mattress topper...emphasis on quality and durability more than cost. I do not want one of the cheap ones on Shopee/Lazada etc as these will either not give enough support or, if they initially do, likely need to be replaced in a year or two.

By quality I mean that it provides pretty firm support for most of the back but allows shoulders, hips etc to gradually sink down while the areas around them remain un-sunken, providing perfect support...and it regains full shape as soon as one gets up from it.

I had a Lady Americana/Picasso for 17 years now (warranty expired  years ago), costly but held up well until this year when it abruptly lost its "memory". Unfortunately I cannot seem to find it anymore in Thailand in the 5 foot width which is what I need.

Appreciate any feedback, thanks.

I consider Tempur, but from what I read online it seems their quality has deteriorated while prices stayed sky high.

Appreciate any suggestions, thanks. i don't need more than a topper, the box spring mattress it sits on is still in good condition. Just way too hard.

Have you looked at Ikea? We almost bought there but sending was 1900 baht.

Must be because of your location, I've had mattresses delivered for 500

We will pick up when I’m coming back, and yes Pattaya is most likely a bigger hub for IKEA with daily deliveries. One of the advantages of living central.

Yes I consider Ikea but need some feedback on their varioys brandd.  Actually from what I can see the toppers are quite thin (4.5 cm) and then there are actual mattresses. I'm looking gor a topper with thickness 3 - 5 inched or so.

My Dunlopillo mattress is as good as maybe better than the 3 IKEA mattresses i had. Can buy on shopee and lazada, they have toppers

I bought the "Nooz Memory Foam Topper, Mattress Pad Mixed with Cool Gel, Model Ergo Coolmax the 7 Zone." From Dreamstown on Lazada and it's the best topper I've bought in my life. I've had it almost 3 years and it's holding up well.

More information please. Did you buy a spring mattress? How thick was the mattress?

Currently, ready for a new mattress and would appreciate advice. Many thanks in advance.

I am satisfied with this one I purchased at Robinsons.

Who knows what I paid for it around March of 2024.

This cannot compare to a premium mattress and box springs for USD5000.00, imported from the USA, I guess.

But, still, it's OK for me.

I think the covering is rather high quality, in fact.

I had to buy two:  My rule in Thailand is to always buy a BACKUP of any product I buy.

I have no idea how long it will last.

Also, the thickness is approximately according to your stated requirements.

Have a look, price has gone right down, good time to buy. Dunlopillo prices are ridiculously high with big discounts usually.

I like the mattress and at 4,562 baht for 5ft one it's the deal of the century

Sorry.

I won't buy anything unless COD payment terms.

Also, I would buy it, maybe, but how would I know if it is better than what I already have?

I have a topper which is about 3 inches thick.

Feels rather comfortable, already.

Now, why is this mattress 10 INCHES thick?

Mostly, I worry about the quality of the thing, since I have never even seen one.

We bought a topper from Central Online 2 years ago - not memory foam - but they had several to choose from at reasonable prices. They in-store toppers were very, very expensive and didn't have as many options as the Central online selection. Be careful with sizing.

We bought a 'Tempur' memory foam mattress in S'pore 25 years ago that is still comfortable today. We 'turn' it every few months to equalize the wear and tear.
If I were looking for a new one, it would be another 'Tempur.'

Bearing the following in mind....I will pass on your offer.

(But, thank you for the thought, anyway.)

When I buy a mattress, I guess I will look for one that might not have a CORE of FOAM.

For me, better to get a real spring mattress, and then add a topper.

I like the mattresses at the Hilton, and at the Peninsula in Kowloon.

Meanwhile, the cheap Esquire Topper, almost 3-inches thick, does the trick.

Quite comfortable for my use, in fact.

And, I have a backup, too!!!

(I think a super good comfortable mattress would cost in the thousands, USD...but could be wrong.)

I agree, after checking on Central, that the Tempur looks nice.  But, why the huge diff between what I bought, the Esquire, and the Tempur?

Is the extra cost justified?

When choosing a memory foam mattress, one must be aware of the problem of "heat retention".

Yes.

Even for one such as I who uses AC blasting 24/7/365, and who keeps temps down around 20 to 21 degrees C, still...

This Esquire memory foam topper is a real heat problem.

After a few hours of sleep, the temperature rises, and this causes the sleeper to awake in order to shed bedclothes, or a duvet, or similar.

I know that there are better mattresses available. But these are traditional mattresses, and are probably imported.

Whatever mattress the Hyatt Regency and the Hilton and similar luxury hotels use, I would be happy to use, too.

Until I find one, and decide to blow my money on one, then I will stay with my El-Cheapo Esquire, and stay hot.

Without an AC, no way, however....

Just one question ..... There are no springs in that. Do you find the mattress to be too soft? I need lower back support.

The ex girlfriend bought some cheap pillows from Lazada. Inside was made of some synthetic, plastic, whatever. My head started to overheat from heat retention, the pillow heated up

I am going to Bangkok end of the week and plan to visit Dunlopillo outlets to try out their toppers. They have several different brands and I need to see which,m if any, are best. I do not want to order online something I haven't tried out given how cumbersome/difficult it would be to return somehting of this size.

It has a foam core.

Not good.

i need lower back support also and it's fine for me. Even if you spend 50k no guarantee your back will like it. I've had spring mattresses and back aches

Update:

i went to Dunlopillo Bed Club on Thonglor (they have other locations too, this just happened to be closest to where I was staying).

They had 2 toppers on display, a memory foam one and a firmer latex one. Both seemed fine lying on them in the show room but one doesn't really know until one has actually slept a whole night or two on a mattress or topper.  I opted for the latex as firmer and I felt the memory foam one might sink down too much.

They are made to order so have to wait for delivery. Price (5 foot, queen size) was 6,950 with free delivery to the province where I live.

Unfortunately they do not allow returns or exchanges for toppers so fingers crossed it suits. One concern I have is that in the showroom both toppers were on top of Dunlopillo mattresses which are much softer than the box spring mattress I will put it on at home.   I plan to first try it with the topper directly on the box spring mattress and if that proves too hard I might try putting it on top of the (ex-) memory foam topper I currently have.

If all else fails you'll see me on here offering to sell a brand new Dunlopillo firma topper! Hopefully will not be necessary.

By sheer serendipity, the hotel where I stayed last night in Bangkok (Solumie Boutique Hotel, highly recommend it) bed had a Dunlopillo mattress, the Expat model. For some reason they had a (different brand) hard topper placed over it, which I took off and spent the night on the Dunlopillo mattress and indeed, it was very good. If I were in the market for a whole mattress, this is what I would get.

Stay tuned for feedback once the topper arrives....

It arrived a few days ago. It is the "Body Dynamic" model.

Firmer than I have historically liked, but with age I've had to compromise a bit on that as soft starts out nice falling asleep but then I pay for it with back pain in the AM.

This topper is very good. Enough give in it for my hips and shoulders to press down (that is my main issue with the conventional cement-like Thai mattress) but it gives only where directly pressed, the rest stays firm enough to support my lower back.

Waking up pain free!!

Many thanks to @scubascuba3 for telling me about it, I had not heard of Dunlopillo before.,
