Police in Bangkok have arrested two Vietnamese nationals who allegedly re-entered Thailand illegally after previously being deported for involvement in pickpocketing gangs, with authorities warning that the suspects had planned to commit new offences during the upcoming New Year period. The arrests took place on 6 December in Soi Prachasongkroh, Din Daeng district, following surveillance triggered by reports from security staff at Wat Pho of a suspicious group of Vietnamese tourists. Officers from Phra Ratchawang Police Station identified the pair as individuals matching profiles of suspects apprehended in 2024, leading to their detention and verification.

Investigators confirmed that the two detainees were Duong Thi Ngoc Thao, 56, whose real identity is Vo Thi Anh Tuyet, 59 and Huynh Hoa Loc, 31, both Vietnamese nationals. Police stated that Vo had previously been arrested under Criminal Court warrant 1092/2567 dated 14 March 2024 for theft by disguising identity in a place of public worship and was deported in September 2025 after completing her sentence, before obtaining a new passport with altered personal details. Huynh was recorded in police databases as a known member of the same Vietnamese pickpocketing gang apprehended in 2024.

Both suspects admitted that they had not travelled alone but had entered Thailand with a third man, Nguyen Huu Van, 53, also Vietnamese, who was a wanted suspect under Criminal Court warrant 1094/2567 dated 14 March 2024 for joint theft. The group reportedly crossed from Laos into Thailand on the night of 5 December 2025 via the Mekong River using an illicit boat route and paid 11,500 baht each for transport to Bangkok. Police said the suspects intended to resume pickpocketing operations targeting foreign tourists during the 2026 New Year festivities.

Khoasod reported that authorities confirmed that none of the individuals had entered through official immigration checkpoints and that their statements matched the findings of Immigration Bureau checks revealing no lawful entry records. Officers subsequently charged the two detained suspects with “being foreign nationals who entered and remained in the Kingdom without permission” under the Immigration Act 1979. They were handed over to investigators at Phra Ratchawang Police Station for legal proceedings, while the search continues for Nguyen Huu Van.

Criminals doing crimes! Shocking!

I wonder what the haul is for these lowlifes. Travel from Vietnam to Laos. Across the river from Laos (how much?). 11,500 each to BKK?!? Do you know anybody who's ever paid 33k for a van?!?

Nobody has much to steal these days. Nobody uses cameras, only phones. Nobody carries cash, the only things to steal are ATM and credit cards. Only Thai hi-sos wear expensive jewelry or watches.

Can't imagine how these guys make a decent living!
