  • Sadly, too expensive for me, I limit my chocolate purchases to a maximum 100bht for 100gm. And these companies seem to expect 220bht (and up) for 100gm, at least 2.2x my maximum cost.

  • Oh cmon mate, thats cheap commercial mass produced with barely 23% - yr comparing vinegar to wine with that

Thanks for that very informative topic. Good to know there is another cash crop with high potential being grown in Chiang Mai. That's news to us, and probably many others here.

Great magnesium source

Great source for pimples too. My sister used to break out in zits from just the smell of chocolate.

Just wanted to give some feedback on this chocolate, I saw the info here and decided to give it a go.

I must say I was really surprised, I am a chocolate lover and dont like most of the commercial, overly sweet stuff that's cheap and readily available. I think if you are going to eat chocolate get some health benefits too.

What impressed me first of all was the delivery service, this company uses Nim Express a refrigerated service so you get the chocolate in great condition. I was worried about it riding in a motorbike bag in the Thai sun for days before getting to me. The package was chilled. The chocolate inside perfect condition.

Its a great quality item and well worth that little extra in cost. I will certainly be using them again.

Did you know Thailand’s quietly become a legit chocolate player? Farmers in places like Chiang Mai, Chumphon, and Prachuap Khiri Khan grow some seriously flavorful Trinitario Barada Chocolate

Sister in law and her husband have a farm near Chiang Rai where they grow “ cocoa” ( as they call it ).

They also produce tea and recently started some coffee production.

Always plenty of tea at our house !!

There are however smaller independent producers who are selling their chocolate at reasonable prices.

We have a dozen cocoa trees of mixed varieties, that are now all producing fruit.

I’ve been fermenting the raw cocoa as a treat but now that we are getting a lot more pods I think I’ll buy a cocoa mill and give chocolate making a go.

How long before chocolate products go down then? It's like strawberries. I didn't know Thailand produced strawberries until I toured the Northern provinces. Yet strawberries remain a luxury product down South.

The dark healthy 80% + coco chocolate which is imported is too expensive so I make my own.

It’s really easy and healthy as you control what the ingredients are.

All you need is coco or cacao powder and organic cold compressed coconut oil.

Mix in a blender with your choice of sweeter ( honey, stevia or monkfruit) and decant into a chocolate mold which u can buy on Lazada.

Place in the fridge for an hour and you’ll have delicious homemade chocolate.

Obviously coconut oil is high in calories so eat in moderation but the health benefits are worth the few extra calories.
