Authorities in Bangkok have detained 14 Chinese nationals suspected of operating online scams following their illegal entry from Myanmar. The arrests took place on December 12 after the individuals were found hiding in a local love hotel. The operation highlights ongoing regional efforts to combat illicit activities and scam operations.

The individuals were apprehended after police monitored suspicious movements in and out of the hotel. Upon inspection, authorities found the group occupying multiple rooms in clusters of three to four. Passport checks revealed that only half had valid documentation; three had overstayed their visas, four lacked entry stamps, and the remainder had no passports.

According to Khaosod, the suspects confessed to crossing into Thailand via the Mae Sot District in Tak Province, escaping increased scrutiny by Myanmar authorities on scam operations. They indicated plans to transit to a third country, suggesting broader networks beyond local operations.

The arrested individuals face charges related to illegal entry and overstaying visas. Three are charged with residing in Thailand post-permission, while the others face charges for bypassing legal immigration procedures. They have been transferred to Bang Chan Police Station as investigations continue.

This incident follows a recent bust of a Chinese cybercrime leader in Bangkok, responsible for a stolen credit card scheme across Asia. The raid yielded 5,000 stolen card records, numerous SIM cards, gold bars, substantial cash, cryptocurrency, and luxury vehicles, with an estimated value in the tens of millions, reported The Thaiger.
