Authorities have seized more than 46,000 disposable e-cigarettes worth over 10 million baht after uncovering an attempt to smuggle the banned products through Bangkok Port. The joint operation, announced on 11 December 2025, involved the Customs Department, the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) and other partner agencies following a detailed inspection of unclaimed cargo containers. Officials said the discovery reflects ongoing efforts under the government’s rapid-response crackdown on illegal goods.

At 14:00, Minister to the Prime Minister’s Office Santi Piyatat joined DSI Director-General Pol Lt Col Yutthana Phaedam and Customs Director-General Phanthong Loikulnan at Bangkok Port to brief the media. The seized items, 46,260 disposable vapes valued at 10,870,000 baht, were found mixed with miscellaneous goods inside seven containers. Authorities said the products are classified as prohibited imports under Thai law, including the Customs Act 2017 and a Commerce Ministry notification banning the import of electronic cigarettes and similar devices.

The inspection was triggered by Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul’s “Quick Win” directive prioritising the suppression of illegal products nationwide. On 4 December 2025, a joint task force examined seven abandoned containers and uncovered the concealed shipments. Officers reported that smugglers attempted to disguise the contraband by scattering different vape flavours among general cargo to evade scans and physical inspections, but data-sharing and coordinated intelligence led to the successful seizure.

Customs chief Phanthong said the number of vape-related seizures had risen significantly in the period, covering 1 October 2025 to 11 December 2025. During this period, authorities confiscated 123,870 items valued at 25,170,650 baht, signalling a notable escalation in smuggling attempts. He added that customs units nationwide, along with allied agencies, will continue tightening checks at border crossings and ports to prevent the entry of goods that harm public health and lead to social consequences.

Thaitabloid reported that authorities reaffirmed their commitment to intensifying inspection measures and strengthening inter-agency coordination. They emphasised that smugglers would face legal action under the relevant laws governing restricted imports. The crackdown is expected to continue as part of broader government efforts to tackle illicit trade and protect consumers.

Just a little nicotine without the combustible tars few more years when the boomer politicians die off it'll be legal 😉

Well done boys...top police work 🤧

Now the fat cats who control the Thai Tobacco Monolopy, 51% owned by the Ministry of Finance, can continue to gorge on the bodies of dead smokers.

These people are the very definition of pure evil. Committing genocide against ex-smokers in order to fill their corrupt pockets.
