Two people were killed and three others seriously injured after a high-speed collision involving multiple motorcycles on a road near Suvarnabhumi Airport in the early hours of Monday, 15 December. The crash led to a temporary closure of the road as emergency services worked to rescue victims and secure the scene.

The incident occurred at about 01.00 on the airport perimeter road, Runway Road 3, in Bang Phli district, Samut Prakan province. The Samut Prakan emergency medical centre received reports of a motorcycle crash involving several vehicles, with multiple casualties and a motorcycle on fire. Three ambulances, rescue teams and Ruamkatanyu Foundation volunteers were dispatched, along with airport fire crews.

At the scene, authorities found five injured people lying across the roadway, all in critical condition. Emergency responders performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on four victims, but two were pronounced dead at the scene, while the remaining three were rushed to nearby hospitals for urgent treatment. Four motorcycles were involved in the crash, one of which caught fire, while the others were scattered across the road.

The deceased were later identified as Ms Apinatchaya Khokkhachan, aged 32 and Ms Phonphimon Thasi, also aged 32. Forensic doctors from Ramathibodi Chakri Naruebodindra Hospital conducted preliminary examinations before the bodies were transferred for detailed post-mortem procedures. Families of the deceased were notified to arrange funeral rites.

A Ruamkatanyu Foundation volunteer, Mr Satayu Wongsawat, said rescue teams initially found the critically injured victims and requested advanced medical support and further reinforcements to be called to the scene amid the ongoing fire.

One rider, Mr Jirapong, aged 30, told police that he and his friends were travelling in a group of four to five motorcycles after attending a meeting in the Krungthep Kreetha area. He said a motorcycle ahead appeared to emit smoke before an apparent explosion, causing riders behind to swerve and collide. Despite attempts to avoid the fallen bike, he said the rider slid all across the road, resulting in a violent impact.

Initial police investigations indicate that two separate groups of motorcyclists were travelling together from the same event. One group, all heading towards Samut Prakan, reportedly lost control and collided among themselves, causing motorcycles to fall in the middle of the road. A second group travelling behind, including the victims, was unable to brake in time and crashed, leading to the fatalities and injuries.

SiamNews reported that police said further questioning of surviving riders will take place once their conditions allow. Investigators will review CCTV footage from Suvarnabhumi Airport to determine the exact cause of the crash, including whether speed racing or reckless riding was involved, which could lead to additional charges.
