An ammonia leak at the Siam Pyramid Company's ice factory in Nakhon Pathom province led to the evacuation of over 100 residents on December 15. The leak in the Tha Talat sub-district of Sam Phran district caused a strong, irritating odor that alarmed nearby residents. Authorities quickly brought the situation under control.

Police, medical staff, and rescue volunteers were dispatched to manage the incident. Residents within a one-kilometer radius were evacuated as a precaution, with a temporary command center set up at Wat Rai Khing Royal Temple. While most residents experienced the smell, nine reported symptoms like chest tightness and breathing difficulties; seven were treated at Sam Phran Hospital, and two at Metta Pracharak Hospital.

Fire engines and municipal officers contained the leak, requiring personnel to wear chemical protection suits. The damaged valve responsible for the leak was shut off, and water was sprayed to minimize odor dispersion. An evacuated resident described the smell as extremely strong, prompting officials to ensure a swift evacuation, including elderly and children.

The factory owner pledged assistance to affected residents. Today, Pho Kaew Police Station officers and relevant agencies will inspect the factory to determine the leak's cause and consider legal action, reported The Thaiger.

Key Takeaways

  • Ammonia leak prompted evacuation of over 100 residents.
