December 17, 2025Dec 17 Popular Post First thank you @Crossy With the suggested paperwork it was less painful. I had a few unforced errors and oops Number 1: always make sure your adress with the bank is up-to-date Number 2- the amount you have in your bank account must be on the letter from the bank Number 3: when they say a year, they mean a year from the printout date. I thought that since I got my last stamp in Jan 25, they would want it for this year. They were nice and gave me a pass NUMBER 4 note the caps . You need a copy of all the pages in your bankbook, a withdrawal on the day you apply, and the bankbook must show it. Iwas applying for an extension based on retirement and the 65k a month. I finally got approved and everything was good unti they stopped me and told me. NEXT YEAR WE WANT A LETTER FROM YOUR EMBASSY IF DOING 65K METHOD Looks like I will have to break down and get married or check out other visas for net yer.

Many expats here are using income method 65k for retirement extension and are from countries that do not provide embassy letter. eg UK, USA, AU, CANADA, etc. I'm Oz and used income method in November at CW. No embassy letter possible. Putting this down to wacko io.

HOPING TO HEAR FROM OTHERS @DrJack54 What kind of letter did you get from the bank? The only thing KK would giveme was a letter saying how much was in my account and that I had an account. I got the printout and highlilghted my depaosits

Bank Letter 2. 12 month bank statement 3. Bank book update on day of application. 1&2, were obtained days prior and 3 on day of application. My monthly transfers were shown as international transfers.
December 17, 2025Dec 17 PATHUM THANI: For required paperwork for retirement you can scan the QR code at the desk where they check your papers or ask for hard copy (saves some printing). Requirements for retirement, 800K or combi or income, are mentioned on that and you get all the other forms to be filled in also attached. Easy and you don't forget anything. This year new (for me) was Google Map where you live and some picture in front and inside the house. The info board says 15 minutes for retirement, but I think they mean they need 15 min to work on your extension. Waiting time for other are not included. Each year I'm in and out in 45 minutes, no questions asked. Also new was the pager they hand out to call you in when they are ready. Last few years included the AC waiting room so progress is made.

Funny, they did not ask for Google or pics, so we will have to keep that in mind. Had allthe other paperwork As I said, as I was leaving, he told me to bring a letter from the Embassy next year. Threw me. Will be looking forward to what happens to you and @crossy next year

I think there is also some confusion, at Bangkok Bank anyway, regarding the Account Ownership Letter

Ridiculous. For anyone wanting to know what the bank letter looks like here is sample. It lists name of owner of account and balance at time of issue. Yes Canadians will not be using embassy letter in future. Will require monthly deposits/transfers

As I have said I am going to wait and see that happens to others and also look at a back up.

Canadian embassy will not longer provide Income Letter. So! ... Start monthly 65k + transfers and accept reality same all the other ppl countries that don't have embassy option. I'm Oz and use income method. Only difference from embassy scam is I need to actually transfer the funds each month. Not an issue. You need funds to live in Thailand

You need funds to live in Thailand I also transfer funds in my KK bank account and ensure it is over 65K That was the certified printout that i took. As to the embassy I know that is done an dusted and have no issue with it. It was the IO that brought it out that confused me. The funds were in thailand.

All you need to do is start monthly transfers of 65k + For immigration next extension will cut you some slack regards exit from embassy income statement. Ongoing you will do monthly transfers. EVERY month. I do that being Oz. No big deal as that money I live off.
December 22, 2025Dec 22 Remember to do you extension paper work in Blue ink. This year I did mine with Black ink. Had to rewrite in correct color, wasted 40 minutes.

My monthly transfers were shown as international transfers. Here in Cha Am they want all 3 documents issued ON THE SAME DAY. since inmigration office is around 8km far and in the middle of nowhere, it s always a rush to go to the bank early and be the first in the long queue of people waiting for the door to be opened and than go as fast as possible to the inmigration. I have a couple of questions if you wish since i have to renew My 1 year visa soon. Last year i went to inmigration on Jan 7th, 20 days before the visa expired (you are allowed to go up to 45 days earlier i think) and they also filled the 90 days report despite it was supposed to be too early for that (up to 15 days earlier, but it was 20 days early ). So i didn t need to go twice. I am confused than: if you renew a long term visa, they can also fill the 90 days report even if it s too early for that ? Second question: Nobody seem to know if there is a limit to stay in Thailand with a 1 year visa, I mean i use to stay 6 months a year, but for example if you stay only 5 months ,Can you be told you stayed too little time ? In some countries you gotta stay min 6 months. Never been able to confirm if such a minimum exists in Thailand. Thanks in advance.

Firstly you do not have a one year visa. You have a 12 month temporary permission of stay. If you wish to exit and reenter Thailand during that validity of that permit you need to buy a reentry permit. Either single or multiple. There is no minimum time required of the 12 month permit to be in Thailand. 45 minutes ago, max72 said: Last year i went to inmigration on Jan 7th, 20 days before the visa expired (you are allowed to go up to 45 days earlier i think) and they also filled the 90 days report despite it was supposed to be too early for that (up to 15 days earlier, but it was 20 days early ). In reality 90 day report has nothing to do with obtaining annual extensions. Apart from the very first extension. Some immigration offices do the 90 report at time of extension as a courtesy
December 22, 2025Dec 22 In Chiang Rai the bank letter and copies of the bank book do not need to be done on the day of application for a retirement extension. I did my 7th extension last week. I got my letter from Bangkok Bank and had my bank book updated the day before I applied. My bank book update was just getting it dated with the notation the it was balance brought forward. I did not need to make any transaction. As a side note I switched from transferring 65k every month to having 800k in the bank. I brought in 65k every month through August. In September I put 800k into my account and stopped the monthly transfers. I had no trouble getting my extension.

I'm just wondering if any additional paperwork has been added to the stack in 2025 that would be applicable to those filing extension in District 5 (Northern Thailand). Thanks!

Before I opened my second account and deposited the 800k I went into the immigration office and talked to them. They confirmed that I could stop the monthly transfers. Chiang Rai immigration is very easy to work with. They are open to meeting with you as long as you don’t go on a Monday or Wednesday when they do extensions.

Apart from the usual TM7, STM2, STM5 and STM9, this year Immigration has also introduced the STM11 and STM10. The STM10 is specific only to extensions based on Thai spouse. It requires a witness signature and a signed copy of the witness's ID card. All the relevant forms can be downloaded here; https://bangkok.immigration.go.th/en/downloads_en/
