US Stops Another Ship -Venezuelan Coast

U.S. forces stopped a second merchant vessel in international waters off the coast of Venezuela on Saturday, escalating pressure on Caracas and marking another enforcement action after a Dec. 10 tanker seizure. The move occurred under orders tied to a newly declared U.S. blockade targeting sanctioned oil tankers.

The vessel reportedly stopped voluntarily and allowed U.S. personnel to board, according to American officials who spoke on condition of anonymity. This intercept follows President Donald Trump’s announcement of a full blockade on sanctioned oil tankers entering or leaving Venezuela.

Tensions have been rising between the United States and Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro’s government amid broader diplomatic conflict over oil exports and sanctions. The Dec. 10 seizure of an oil tanker near Venezuelan waters marked the first such U.S. action in recent weeks.

Trump has defended the blockade as part of efforts to hit Venezuela’s oil trade and recover U.S. energy investments he says were unlawfully taken. Maduro has rejected the U.S. moves as attempts at regime change, ordering Venezuelan naval escorts for oil tankers in defiance of the blockade.

International reactions to the U.S. actions have varied, with some regional leaders calling for diplomatic intervention to prevent escalation. Analysts warn that continued interdictions of merchant vessels could further strain U.S.–Venezuela relations and disrupt global oil markets already sensitive to supply tensions.

Looking ahead, U.S. officials say military operations may continue and have not ruled out expanded actions to enforce the blockade. Venezuela’s response, including naval escorts and criticisms of U.S. policy, suggests the standoff may persist and complicate future oil shipments from the country.

Key Takeaways

• U.S. forces intercepted a second merchant vessel off Venezuela as part of a blockade on sanctioned oil tankers.

• The vessel reportedly stopped voluntarily and allowed U.S. boarding amid rising tensions with Caracas.

• Continued enforcement actions could heighten geopolitical strain and affect Venezuelan oil exports.

Maduro must be having a had time finding a country that will accept him and his billions of dollars.  He's got nowhere to run to if he abdicates.

The interdiction marks the second known vessel seizure near Venezuela this month and follows President Donald Trump’s recent announcement of a “blockade” targeting sanctioned oil tankers moving in and out of the country. Earlier this month, US authorities seized a large oil tanker called the Skipper, which had been under sanctions for its ties to Iran.

Unlike that earlier case, the tanker seized Saturday was not under US sanctions, the official said. The Panamanian-flagged vessel was carrying Venezuelan oil and was ultimately bound for Asia. The boarding was not contested by the crew.

"Den of thieves"

A third tanker is been pursued. Oil prices rose almost 1% and will potentially rise pump prices adding to inflation. Meanwhile Maduro is not intimidated and prepared to make a stand. China called out US as a bully and offer aids to Venezuela to offsets the decline in oil revenues. Russia is providing weapons to Venezuela.

Is this a well thoughout foreign policy strategy? If US send in ground troops, it will not be popular in US and condemned by the world. I don't think US ground forces in the region are strong enough for an invasion. This just played into the hands and strengtened China and Russia influence in the region. I really don't see any upside for Trump to continue this ridiculous personal agenda and the heavy cost the people have to pay for Trump's military adventurism at a time when the economy is faltering.

Distract from Epstein and the economy.

That’s a costly gamble.

He likely to survive the Epstein scandal by virtue of his Presidential immunity and he got his loyalists in DOJ and FBI to shield him but the faltering economy is unforgiving. He will hope that the Supreme Court will ruled his tariffs illegal and blame them for lifting the tariffs. Again that’s only part of the economic headwind as the immigration policy is another deterring factor.

He might start the war to gamer nationalist support but will cost taxpayer $5-6 billions per day and will blow up the economy and deficit and unpopular. It’s really  no win effort by clueless Trump. He should simply walk away and pretend nothing happened and eat some humble pie.

A man who thinks you need ID to buy a loaf of bread and claims he reduced medicine prices by 1,500 per cent does not do ‘logical’. He flies by the seat of his pants, has the attention span of a gnat and thinks maybe 10 seconds into the future, 15 tops.
