A primary school teacher in Udon Thani province is accused of physically assaulting a pupil, leaving the child with a nosebleed and raising serious concerns among parents and authorities. The incident allegedly involved a newly qualified male teacher striking a seven-year-old boy in the face, with two other pupils reportedly punished in a similar manner. The child’s family says the incident has caused ongoing physical symptoms and emotional distress.

The complaint was filed on 28 December 2025 by Mr Thorathon, 51, a resident of Mueang district, Udon Thani. He stated that his son, known as Leo, aged seven, was struck by his homeroom teacher at a primary school in the same district, causing bleeding from the nose. Medical documents, after treatment, submitted by the father state that the child suffered “mild head and brain trauma,” prompting fears of possible long-term effects.

According to the father, the incident occurred on 26 November 2025, when the teacher allegedly slapped Leo on the right cheek, leaving visible redness. The teacher later escorted the child home but did not inform the family of any physical punishment, stating only that the child was not studying well. The following day, Leo mentioned that classmates had been slapped but did not initially admit that he was also a victim.

The father said he only learned the full details after Leo refused to attend school on 27 December and later suffered a nosebleed while out shopping. Leo then revealed that he and two classmates, identified as Kafew and Gino, were punished after mocking an elderly noodle vendor near the school by calling her “old granny.” One child was allegedly instructed to slap himself, while Leo and another pupil were struck by the teacher.

Leo told reporters that the teacher forced him to confess to being the ringleader and then grabbed his mouth before slapping him hard on the right cheek. He said he was frightened and no longer felt safe attending school. The father reported that when classmates tried to alert the teacher to the bleeding, the response was dismissive, with the teacher allegedly saying the bleeding would stop on its own.

After confronting the teacher and the school principal, both denied that any assault had taken place. The father said he later received threatening messages from an unknown number, warning him not to pursue the matter. He noted that the teacher had been at the school for less than a year and described the situation as deeply distressing.

Naewna reported that authorities from the Udon Thani Provincial Social Development and Human Security Office and the Primary Educational Service Area Office 1 inspected the school to investigate the allegations at 10.30am on 30 December 2025.
