A road crash at a traffic light junction in Amnat Charoen province left one person dead and ten others injured after a pickup truck crashed into several stationary vehicles. The collision occurred in the early afternoon of 29 December 2025, just one day before Thailand’s annual New Year road safety campaign known as the “Seven Dangerous Days”, highlighting ongoing concerns about traffic accidents during the holiday period.

Police from Senangkhanikhom station were alerted to the crash at around 1.00pm at the Ban Na Rai Yai traffic lights in Senangkhanikhom district. Emergency responders and rescue workers from the Phetkasem Foundation in Amnat Charoen were dispatched to the scene, where multiple vehicles had been damaged and several people were injured.

Initial findings showed that a black Toyota pickup truck had slammed into the rear of a white Mitsubishi pickup that was stopped at a red light. The force of the impact caused a chain reaction, pushing vehicles forward and resulting in further collisions involving another pickup truck and two motorcycles positioned at the front of the queue. The vehicles sustained heavy damage, with both pickup trucks badly wrecked.

A total of 11 people were injured in the crash, comprising seven men and four women. Among them, one motorcyclist suffered critical injuries and was rushed to Senangkhanikhom Hospital along with the other casualties. Despite medical efforts, the critically injured rider later died from their injuries, bringing the death toll to one.

Police said that, prior to the collision, the pickup trucks and motorcycles had been stationary while waiting for the traffic signal to change. Another pickup truck then approached at speed and struck the vehicles from behind, triggering the pile-up. Officers are continuing to investigate the exact cause of the crash and will take legal action in accordance with the findings.

The incident comes as authorities across Thailand prepare for increased traffic volumes during the New Year holiday period. Road safety agencies typically intensify warnings and enforcement in the days leading up to the “Seven Dangerous Days”, when accident rates traditionally rise due to long-distance travel, speeding, and drink-driving.

Khoasod reported that local police confirmed that statements are being taken from drivers and witnesses, and vehicle inspections are under way. Further details will be released once the investigation is complete, as officials seek to determine responsibility and prevent similar incidents during the busy festive season.

One more data point. Everyone with 4 wheels and seatbelts survived. The completely innocent scooter rider didn't.

Check the black pick-up driver's phone use.
