Never taken fingerprints and renewals can be done online, no need to go to Embassy.

The Oz Embassy in Bangkok seems to have been fussy about passport photos for a long time.

Previously, I twice renewed my passport at the Embassy in Bangkok (a decade ago and late last century); both times the passport photos were deemed inappropriate, and I was sent to a nearby "recommended" shop to get the required photos. No problems with the new photos.

I submitted a new application online a few weeks ago, and sent in the printed form and the required photos. Two days later, a very well spoken Thai official at the Embassy called and indicated that there was problem with the photos, could I please email a jpeg format file of the picture, which I did. A few days later my credit card was debited for the due amount. Seems all is ok now.

Note, the Embassy passport website has a downloadable pdf file in Thai detailing the photo requirements. I downloaded and printed the file, and took it to a photo shop in Hua Hin. But, alas, the people at the shop must not have followed the instructions.

All is all a slightly stressful process; but it is great and convenient for those of us who do not live in Bangkok and are thus not required to travel to the Embassy or Consulate in Phuket.
