LINUX: 2026 will be:(not joking) THE year for LINUX desktop

Featured Replies

Dear Linux Folks,

I have been predicting this for about 25 years, but now, as we can easily see from this great vid, 2026 will prove me...RIGHT...once again!!!

For those who might not know what Linux might be: Please do not watch this video. Or, watch it, if you will, but I really do not expect much out of you, honestly.

So then, why is OUR THING growing?

Why is there such a BULGE protruding?

Why do women, for that matter, notice this bulge, and want to GET ON this bulge, too?

No worries, because, I did ask Gemini:

Uploading Attachment...

Uploading Attachment...

Uploading Attachment...

Also, no developer, worth her salt, would switch from RED-HAT to that Crab-Apple-OS.

So, what are just a very few reasons why 2026 with be: THE "year of the Desktop" Breakthrough?

I would tell you more, but I am having trouble uploading to the forum servers, which are, one might easily presume, without knowing, of course, run on Microsoft.

I just thought I would mention this, today, January 01, because, so far, no-one else has.

It just boggles the mind how many humans follow the leaders, no matter where the leaders might lead them.

It's like they haven't a brain of their own.

But, as we also know: The NORMAL CURVE, just to one standard of deviation, left and right from the mean, contains about 68 percent of any population distribution.

And, how smart are these SILENT MAJORITY Folks?

Well....they are neither BRIGHT, nor are they DIM.

They are in the middle.

They just go through life, without a care, plodding, plodding, ever plodding, and never knowing.

And, without a paddle...too.

Sorry, fellows, but...

This is just the way the NORMAL CURVE works.

I predict that in 2026, the Linux-desktop uptake, worldwide, will go to 4.5%.

But then, this is a HUGE number, too.

What is 4 percent of 10 Billion?

Does anybody know?

Does anybody REALLY know what time it is?

02:46, in case anyone might care.

Must be windy over there.....

Linux is for EVERYBODY

However read the comments which are often from those actually working in tech.......

I still recall when some city government in Germany switched to SUSE. How many decades ago? About 2.5.

Anyway, I like The Register, and used to read it much.

There statement:

"A few years back, I wrote in these very pages that Microsoft didn't want you so much to buy Windows as subscribe to its cloud services and keep your data on its servers. If you wanted a real desktop operating system, Linux would be almost your only choice."

This statement completely resonates with everyone, since Microsoft, the bums, have turned into a subscription machine, which no-longer sells software, and does not care about software. The greedy bums will never be satisfied, which is how business in a capitalist system must work, or does work in the USA.

This is why I will NEVER AGAIN, pirate MS Software; it is no-longer an OS, in the traditional sense, which is designed to perform all functions.

They are right that Linux is probably the only option.

However, I don't know how many in the computer user population are smart enough to understand this. Or will they just be boiled to death in a pot, like frogs?

The learning curve for Linux is super low, and, of course, SUSE is best.

I only care about having a sufficient user-base for openSUSE and enough users to keep the project going forward.

If Linux-desktop hits 5%, then it is really here to stay, and will continue to progress. It's already great, but it will get greater.

Maybe I will begin reading The Register, once more.

(After I find and move into a quieter house, with no overflying aircraft, and no huge construction trucks whizzing by on a nearby street. That will be nice. What good is having a super-quiet SUSE desktop when the outside traffic becomes intrusive.)
