"Gripping" eh? So what is it all about??????? Tell us, for godsakes, please.

This thread is no good if contributors don't say something, however minimal, about the bleeding thing....

(Besides, it's all too rare for the BBC these days to offer something that 'grips' one.)

Well, just to save you the agony of not knowing, or indeed trying to trawl through it to try and understand it, I will throw in a few things for you......

A girl in a mental asylum (or similar) accused of murdering one of her family, but is adamant she didn't do it; her father who is a "preacher" of sorts in a new age religious construct and is estranged from her; a detective in a wheelchair who is trying to get to the bottom of the murder of the mother of the mentally challenged girl (who by the way constantly draws sketches of people somehow involved) – – – then the wheelchair detective meets a "nice man" and seemingly considers sex with him. And that is where I left it, none the wiser about anything apart from the fact it was not gripping and was very ordinary, if that........or I could say. "rubbish".

Finished watching last night. Yea, 'gripping' was a stretch. Actually got better with twist here & there, but still, lacked quite a bit.

Can't say I'd recommend, as it's a long road, but if like me, you ran out of everything, then it's just 'an OK' time killer.

Have just finished watching "The Full Monty" about a few redundant steelworkers who put on a strip show in order to make a bit of money and the movie deals with their reluctance to do this and the the people who laugh at them when they hear about it......many years since I first saw it and was worth a second look!

The same guys come back with a series 25 years later, worth a look.

Are you named after 'Leopold Paula Bloom the fictional protagonist and hero of James Joyce's 1922 novel Ulysses? If so, can tell me what that book was about??????

Probably only of interest to Brits of a certain age but I grew up watching "A Kick up the Eighties" & Young Ones so it's a bit of me...

Rik Mayall Magnificent B'Stards...

From early sketches to standout performances, Mayall's comedy bursts with energy and intent, capturing a pivotal moment in British comedy while delivering pure entertainment.

And don't forget, Kevin's ear....

Yes, it's about everything that you've ever experienced in life.

Whereas Homer's wandering sailor was parted from his missis for 10 going on for 20 years, Mr Bloom wandered about Dublin for about 15 hours, allowing his wife, Molly, to have sufficient time to enjoy the body of Blazes Boylan.

The novel ends on the word "yes", which is the only clue as to what might go on in the future of Mr and Mrs Bloom when they both wake up tomorrow.

Mr Bloom's part in the novel begins with this sentence: "Mr Leopold Bloom ate with relish the inner organs of beasts and fowls."

Hope that helps.

If not, don't hesitate to ask....

PS: I'm puzzled when you say "Are you named after". Doesn't everyone on AN work with an alias or pseudonym? Or are you "really" Mike Bell?

Pee Ess:

"Paula" might suggest some gender uncertainty, but Joyce's father (possibly a bit into the sauce?) made a mistake when he registered what should have been James Augustine Joyce as James Augusta Joyce.

If you haven't already seen them, you make like 'Rik Mayall Presents'. Was 2 series (3 episodes in each) of dark comedies originally broadcast in 1993 and 1995 on ITV. I happened to stumble across them on a recent trip to the UK on one of the more obscure Freeview channels showing them at 10pm. Quite dark and humorous.

Fightland...

A disgraced boxing champion is released from prison and returns to London to take revenge on the crime family that betrayed him.

Also, series 3 of Lioness Special Ops...

CIA operative Joe McNamara and her team attempt to balance their personal and professional lives as the tip of the spear in the agency's war on terror.

I have dated (and even married) an assortment of Latinas in my life, and at some point nearly each of them called me by my now AN handle.

I am told it means "handsome, charming gentleman." clap2
