A good old movie worth a watch is " The Amazing Mr Blunden " great film about a guy called Me Blunden who comes forward from the 1800's to put right a wrong. Please watch this Trailor.

Over the past few nights I have watched two Guy Ritchie movies and although they have been okay, they do follow a set format and can be quite confusing in the way they are put together, especially with some flashbacks.

So having watched, "RocknRolla", "Snatch" and "Lock, Stock and two Smoking Barrels" I feel I've had my share of Mr Richie's movies and now find them quite mundane, so no more for me. ALTHOUGH I may look up one of his earlier movies called "The Covenant", so has anyone here seen it and if so I would welcome a comment.

I'm watching Empire of the Sun again—one of Steven Spielberg's lesser-known movies, with Christian Bale as a child.

Set during World War II, the film follows a young British boy who becomes separated from his parents during the Japanese occupation of Shanghai and ends up in a Japanese prisoner-of-war camp.

I'm really enjoying the haunting music. It's a beautifully made and moving film.

For anyone who missed it, it's definitely worth watching—even again.

The Covenant is recent ( 2023 ) and is good, the others you mentioned are a lot older ( 2000 - 2008 ).

The Covenant is good and not at all like his early movies, he seems to have moved away from that format although The Gentlemen ( movie and series ) had signs of his directing of old.

Watched a 2026 movie of his, In The Grey, it was okay but only okay.

I like his older style, Snatch in particular is a classic and worthy of revisiting as there is always some joke or scene that makes you ( well okay me ! ) laugh out loud.

His older style of directing was his signature, of late he has become like the rest…… money grab ?

Thanks @Andrew Dwyer as I watched the movie last night and it was a good evening's entertainment.

PS. If you haven't seen it before then I can recommend the movie "The Impossible", also starring Ewen McGregor, about the 2004 Tsunami that devastated parts of the Thailand coastline (and others). I had been in Thailand a few months earlier and a friend had stayed on to be with his Thai g/f, and witnessed the Tsunami first hand, fleeing to the high ground in Patong where he was staying

I went back in March of the following year and the devastation was horrendous.

Later on when the movie was released I noticed that a few Thai locals whom I knew, were used as extras in the movie, making it a bit more "personal" if you wish.

A very good movie IMO. Cheers.

I have been watching episodes of the classic Japanese TV series Zatoichi, The Blind Swordsman. Zatoichi started off in the early 1960's as a series of movies (some of which ae available on the Internet Archive). It was then revived in the 1970's as a TV series. It's formulaic, to be sure, but even so to me it's much more compelling than most modern TV shows. Shintaro Katsu gives a brilliant performance as Ichi and each episode mixes comedy, romance, tragedy and the killing of lots of bad guys as Ichi strives to bring justice to the oppressed common folk.

The 1970's TV series is available in both subtitled and dubbed versions on the YouTube channel Samurai vs Ninja along with many other Japanese historical dramas.

Series 4 is dropping.

Watched them both. The aftermath is much better. The impossible is your typical Hollywood ending where every major character survives.

Seems to go ok.

WOW, I have just watched the movie "Hacksaw Ridge" and it has to be one of the best war movies that I have ever seen.....and what's more it is a true story, based on the heroic exploits of conscientious objector Desmond Dross. The war/battle scenes are realistic and gruesome to say the least!!

If you haven't seen it, then it is one not to miss.

I think so. But I know the family from the impossible is a real deal story. All survived as crazy as it sounds.

Yea, and 'The Impossible' better as based on true, not inspired by events. Aftermath really whitewashed the failure and corruption afterward.

Both covered different aspects of it, so can't really compare. While watching Aftermath, kept thinking, 'oh come on, tell the truth'.

Almost like the screenplay had to be approved by the corrupt officials that benefitted.

Drops of God is a quite brilliant movie, especially if you enjoy red wine and all the tasting that is part and parcel of its mystique.
