Police in Bangkok are hunting a gunman after a 41-year-old air-conditioner technician was shot dead in Pracha Uthit Soi 27, Rat Burana district, in a late-night attack that investigators believe may involve a local dispute. The victim was ambushed while riding a motorcycle and was repeatedly shot at close range, dying at the scene. Officers say the shooting has raised concerns among residents in the narrow residential area.

The killing occurred on the evening of 7 January 2026. R.t. Lt. Weeradej Kasanuk, a deputy investigator at Rat Burana Police Station, received a report of a fatal shooting outside a company premises in Pracha Uthit Soi 27, intersection 8, in Rat Burana district, Bangkok. He coordinated with forensic officers, a forensic pathologist from Siriraj Hospital and volunteers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation before attending the scene with Pol Col Watcharapol Suwannathong, superintendent of Rat Burana Police Station.

At the scene, police found the body of Mr Worapot, aged 41, who worked as an air-conditioner technician. He was lying on his back in a pool of blood in the middle of the road, having suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the head and body from a 9mm firearm. Nearby was his red-and-black Yamaha Nouvo motorcycle, Bangkok registration, which had toppled over.

Investigators recovered nine 9mm spent cartridge cases scattered around the area, along with a mobile phone and a pair of black flip-flop sandals believed to have been dropped by the suspect. Witnesses told police the victim did not live in the street but had ridden his motorcycle there to visit a friend. As he was leaving, the gunman opened fire and then walked closer to shoot him again.

Police believe the shooter may be someone who lives in the same street, noting reports that the victim’s friend had previously been involved in disputes with neighbours in the area. However, officers have said they are not ruling out other possible motives. CCTV cameras near the scene reportedly captured footage of the attack, including the moment the gunman returned to fire additional shots.

At about 10pm that evening, officers traced the mobile phone found at the scene to a 44-year-old man who lives in a condominium in Pracha Uthit Soi 33, intersection 10, also in Rat Burana district. The man, who works at a factory near the crime scene, denied any involvement when questioned. Police have taken him in for further interrogation while continuing to interview witnesses and analyse CCTV footage.

Daily News reported that investigators are focusing on confirming the identity of the gunman, establishing the motive and determining whether the suspect acted alone. Police have said further forensic analysis and witness statements will be key to advancing the case.
