Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit, former leader of Future Forward, announced that People’s future MPs will not support Caretaker Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul for premiership following the February 8 general election.

Speaking in Buriram, a Bhumjaithai stronghold, Thanathorn assured locals that the People’s elected lawmakers will back their leader, Nattapong Ruengpanyawut, for the position. This move emphasises the party's stance against Anutin, even if Bhumjaithai leads a post-election coalition.

The People’s resolve follows previous alliances with Bhumjaithai, who are at the government's core under Newin Chidchob’s leadership. Thanathorn highlighted the shift away from Anutin, referencing the transformation from Future Forward to Move Forward and finally to the People’s. Despite potential coalition opportunities with parties like Pheu Thai or Klatham, Thanathorn insisted the People’s would not align under Anutin’s leadership.

The Bhumjaithai party easily won the last Buriram election, but the People's strategy revolves around independence. They could form a government without Bhumjaithai's involvement if they become the largest party. Alongside these plans, former activist Nattaya Boonpakdee was introduced as their candidate for social development and human security minister, backed by her experience with the Thai Health Promotion Foundation and United Nations.

Nattaya’s candidacy represents the People’s commitment to broader social reforms, aiming to endorse sexual diversity and improve supportive environments for families. This proactive approach is in marked contrast to other parties, as the People’s openly propose their cabinet members prior to elections, reinforcing transparency and planned governance direction, reported Thai Newsroom.

Key Takeaways:

  • Thanathorn declares People's MPs will not support Anutin for PM.

  • People’s party plans for Nattapong as leader, rejecting past alliances.

  • Nattaya Boonpakdee proposed for a key social cabinet role.

Wish them well fighting against the entrenched establishment who don't want any hair-brained modernisation that will challenge their grip on the money trough.

Anutin became the militaries lapdog by choice, and the fact he allowed the convicted heroin dealer into his cabinet, says a lot about his character and moral standing. Let him wallow in the stench of the people he sold his soul to, hopefully it comes back to haunt him one day.

Slightly confusing when they keep changing their name. What are the odds that this wont be the only name change this year, post election, post dissolution?

Anutin is not only the worst man for the job, he's the least qualified and he is the poorest choice at this moment in time for Thailand. They really need to figure out a way to get past the dinosaurs, so that they can start making some progress and move into the 21st century. The people of Thailand deserve that.

As long as there are big money players like Chidchob and Thaksin, there will be these parties. The rich have their pals. Imagine what it would be like if they made a limit on the amount of money a person can give to a political party.

Or give to voters as an inducement to vote for them.

Hopefully we will see some change for the future. We need new blood.

Pipe dream, we are still decades away from any meaningful "change", the Dinosaurs are entrenched and they aren't going anywhere. It's a good start, but don't expect much, that way you'll be less disappointed when the inevitable happens.

Maybe he should save those tears for his loss at the General Election??

Unfortunately for the Future Forward party their ideas are to radical for the old guard and they’re are the ones who fear change the most, and potentially lose their place in the trough, and will do whatever they can to impede them, even if they were to win. There time will come eventually and it will be for the benefit of Thailand. Thaksin learnt the hard way not to disregard the party when he, and his daughter, got humiliated by them in the last election. He might have the votes of the elderly, who’ll die sooner, but the young are more savvy about the world and ask the awkward questions and challenge the reasons for why things are done a certain way. I hope to see it happen in my lifetime.

It doenst matter who or what come next or will stay, it will end up again bad.

Proven by history. The road we are on now since 2000 is a low end.

No matter which country, all leaders dictators and thats it. Past, now and future.

We are waiting on the last and only one, the AGI.

I fear this is a big mistake,

The Peoples Party may win at the ballot but may lose out long-term again.

Anutin will make a coalition party much like the PTP did after the last election.

Better he back Anutin, win the election and get into government... then control Anutin/policies.

Genuine question but are all the candidates rich millionaires ?

Anyone with normal working class jobs people leading any party ?
