A 44-year-old Myanmar national was killed on Friday afternoon after being struck by a passenger train on a railway section near Pattaya, prompting an emergency response and a police investigation in Bang Lamung district, Chonburi. The fatal incident occurred at about 3.00pm on 9 January 2026 near the Nong Ket Noi railway underpass in tambon Nong Pla Lai. The man died at the scene after being run over by the train, with his body severed into two parts.

Police identified the deceased as Mr Min Tu, aged 44, a Myanmar citizen employed as a refuse collector by a private company. The train involved was an ordinary diesel rail service operating on the Chuk Samet–Bangkok (Hua Lamphong) route. The train was stopped at the scene while officers and rescue workers from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation carried out their duties.

According to railway records, passenger train No. 284 arrived at Pattaya Station at 2.20pm and departed at 2.21pm as scheduled. At 2.27pm, the station master at Bang Lamung was informed by the train driver that the train had struck a person near signal post 149/1 between Pattaya and Bang Lamung stations. Emergency services were then alerted to a fatality near the Krating Lai junction.

Investigating officer Pol Lt Phatsaya Rukrattan, deputy inspector at Bang Lamung Police Station, attended the scene with rescue personnel. The victim’s remains were documented and collected as evidence before being transferred to Hospital. Authorities said the body will be released to relatives once identification documents are provided, so funeral rites can be carried out.

A co-worker, Ms Suri, aged 45, told police that Mr Min Tu had been deeply distressed after the death of a close friend on 6 January 2026. She said colleagues had been taking turns to look after him out of concern that he might harm himself. On the day of the incident, the group was travelling to collect another friend’s body for religious rites at Krating Lai temple when they briefly lost sight of Mr Min Tu.

Khoasod reported that police said preliminary findings suggest the man may have taken his own life due to grief over his friend’s death. Investigators questioned the train driver and are reviewing the circumstances surrounding how the victim came to be on the tracks. Railway authorities are also involved in examining the sequence of events.

Some people have really hard lives, and then ending in tragedy to make matters worse.

They surely do and we should never make assumptions as to the reason of what may have happened.

Certainly sad for the guy and as well as for the train driver who now has to live with this tragic outcome.

Not easy to get hit by a train unless you're in a vehicle and taking chances crossing. Many are as it suggests, suicides.

I have a good friend who took his life and it absolutely devastated his family. I have another friend who's brother took his life, and the family has never been the same even 30 years later.

The way I look at it if you're going to take your life do it in private, don't get the entire community and nation involved in your business. It's a fairly thoughtless last act to commit.
