A Thai mother has accused police of delaying an investigation into her autistic son's alleged abuse at a school in Nonthaburi province. The 45-year-old, identified as A, reported that a teacher at the school cut her 12-year-old son's leg with a ruler and locked him in a locker. She sought help from Porramate Chaipatcharakunpong, an adviser to the Education Minister, after noticing behavioral changes in her son, who attends school in Bang Bua Thong district.

The mother realized something was wrong when her son began crying frequently and writing words like "locker" and "sad" on paper. He eventually disclosed the alleged mistreatment by a female teacher, describing incidents including being placed inside a locker for nearly an hour. CCTV footage reportedly showed the teacher escorting the boy from the classroom, where his demeanor appeared depressed and pained.

Following the incident on December 12, the mother filed a complaint with Bang Bua Thong Police Station on December 17. The teacher denied any wrongdoing and claimed the locker didn't exist, despite evidence suggesting otherwise. The police superintendent refuted claims of inaction, stating that officers are required to question all parties, including the child, before proceeding further.

The police are handling the case as potential inappropriate punishment while determining if it constitutes physical abuse. In response, they are planning to summon the teacher for additional questioning. The mother's concerns highlight challenges in ensuring swift justice and protection for vulnerable students in educational settings.

Key Takeaways

  • A mother alleges her autistic son was abused by a teacher, leading to a police investigation.

  • Police reject claims of delaying the probe, stating ongoing questioning of involved parties.

  • The case focuses on potential inappropriate punishment rather than immediate physical abuse.
