Three female secondary school students aged 12–13 were killed in a head-on collision involving a white BYD electric car driven by an acting director of a local council finance division, sparking fears among relatives that the case could be quietly dropped. The crash occurred on 11 January 2026 on Phetchaburi East Road, Moo 2, Tha Raeng subdistrict, Ban Laem district, Phetchaburi province, near Mittraphap School, with all three students pronounced dead at the scene.

The vehicle was driven by Mr Kampanat, an electrical engineer serving as acting director of the finance division at a subdistrict administrative organisation. Police said the BYD, registration from Phetchaburi, was found straddling lanes with front-left damage and a shattered windscreen, while the students’ grey motorcycle, registration from Phetchaburi, had the front wheel ripped off by the impact.

According to initial inquiries, the three students were riding on the motorcycle travelling from Ban Laem district when the BYD, travelling in the opposite direction towards Ban Laem, collided head-on. The driver and one passenger in the car were uninjured and there were no eyewitnesses at the time of the crash.

Public concern intensified after a Facebook user, “Lung Joke Jaidee,” called for justice, saying the family had received no clear answers since the incident. Relatives questioned the absence of dashcam footage, noting that the car was a newer electric model and alleging that a camera appeared visible during a live stream, which has since been deleted, from the scene.

On 13 January 2026, Pol Col Wayoopak Wongsakdirin, superintendent of Ban Laem police station, said the claim about a missing camera was incorrect. He stated that the driver reported the vehicle did not have a dashcam installed and confirmation from BYD Phetchaburi showed the model did not include a camera as standard equipment, only an empty housing.

Police denied any outside pressure, despite reports that the driver was a senior civil servant and said investigators were gathering further evidence, particularly to establish the exact point of impact. Officers said the case was being handled impartially and urged the family to remain confident in the process.

Daily News reported that the family of one victim later returned to the scene with two monks from Wat Srisakham to perform a spirit-calling ceremony before funeral rites. The victim’s mother, Ms Nattawan Sawangpipop, 38, said through tears that her daughter “Mew” had been rehearsing singing at Ban Laem Wittaya School for an arts competition in March and asked the driver to come forward to apologise and show responsibility, adding she trusted police to proceed fairly.

12 & 13 on a bike - 3 of them & guessing no helmet ⛑️ - law is 15 for scooters in Thailand (50 cc) & no dash cam or witnesses

"alleging that a camera appeared visible during a live stream, which has since been deleted, from the scene. " - sad loss for the families but why let them drive when underage? If the SUV at fault hope he mans up & takes responsibility but no mention of that in the OP

RIP kids
