Scottish Man Disappears on Bangkok Holiday and Volunteer Trip

Featured Replies

"Robertson sent a brief email to a friend on January 8, though its contents remain undisclosed by the family."

My immediate reaction is that the family is hiding something. This could be just a wild goose chase. The guy could be unhappy and doesn't want to be in contact with the family. Disclose the contents and let the authorities do their job.

Well it’s safe if you stay at a resort and go to the beach it’s situated on. I’ve never felt unsafe in Bangkok. Or Udon, or Loi Et or Loei or, well any Isaan town. But then again, I don’t stay out till the early hours of the morning.

But you are right tourists and locals alike DO die in road traffic accidents. Which is precisely why I said that is my main concern. It doesn’t mean that people are out to kill you, but extra care is required in respect of traffic and we all know the reputation of Thai buses.

So I would disagree that Thailand is generally unsafe, but caution that extra care is required particularly when riding a motorbike. And when wandering around a red light area drunk in the early hours of the morning ( not suggesting that is the case here).

Life is cheap in Thailand.

My niece has just advised me (9pm Sat 24 Jan) that Kenny has been found and is receiving help to return home. No further details available yet, but that is good news.
